A true value signing by Rob.

With a player option lol. Never a team option. Otis was such a pushover.

He has a 7'3" wingspan and 8'11" standing reach. Plus he gave Dwight fits back in the day. I think he'll be fine.

Ha. That's proportionally longer than mine. Incredible. And most people call me a long armed freak. I'm 5'8 with at least a 6.2' (more specifically recorded at 6'2.5 recently) wingspan.

Being a tough player he'll bring that to practice so our young guys will be get used to playing tough in training.

6'6 with a 7'3 Wingspan!?
I think the only thing consistent with the guys that Hennigan likes is a huge wingspan

Andrew Nicholson-6'9 with a 7'4 wingspan.
Maurice Harkless- 6'8 with a 7'1 wingspan
Victor Oladipo-6'4 with a 6'9 wingspan
Kile O'quinn- 6'8 with 7'5 wingspan(wow! had no idea about this one)
Nikola Vucevic-7'0 with a 7'5 wingspan
Ronnie Price-6'1 with a 6'5.5 wingspan
Aaron Afflalo-6'5 with a 6'9 wingspan
Tobias harris 6'7.5 with a 6'11 wingspan
Etawaun Moore- 6'4 with a 6'9 wingspan

Even though he wasnt really aquired, I think its safe to assume that we were trying to get eric bledsoe who has a crazy wingspan of almost 6'8 despite being 6'1
There is also Eyenga whos 6'5 with over 7'1 wingspan.

what about the guys he traded/passed on?
JJ redick-6'4 with a 6'2 wingspan.
Ryan Anderson 6'9 with a 6'8 wingspan.

So I guess the first thing for us to check if someone is a "Hennigan guy" if to his wingspan.
Going by this logic, Marcus Smart should be a guy Hennigan really likes with his rumured 6'10-11 wingspan, while Julius Randle and Aaron Gordon may not be Hannigan guys with a pretty unimpressive wingspan compared to Wiggins, Smart and Parker.

I finally get it. Henny is trying to build a team that can all touch finger tips around the entire perimeter

Just to add to the wingspan theory: JJ Redick, who had a disproportionately short wingspan, was traded away.

I think that Motown attitude and toughness is something this team needs. Every team needs somebody like that. Don't want to be too soft......again.

It is so sad that we Magic fans are excited about Maxiell as a Magician. For me, he is a guy that should be #8-#10 on a depth chart of a championship contender. But here we are in Tank world, looking at a Tanking future. Such is life.

In NBA, I never say no to a average defensive PF with a cheap contract, and team option... Good move...

Building on the wingspan discussion I read somewhere that shorter wingspan was associated with better shooting while longer wingspan with better defense!

Also, you don't manipulate the ball with your head but your hands, so wingspan is more relevant than height

A #8 to #10 guy seems to be where he'd wind up on our depth chart too. Definitely an everyday bench player that will be involved in every game. Hey, if he was a #8 guy with the Pistons I don't see why it would be a hinderance to have him as a rotational bench player for us as well. The guy's a good player and would be a key member of any championship squad.

Heh.

Offensively, having long arms can help with back-to-the-basket post moves such as a hook shot.

HeySoo CreeStow...That's ridiculous.
I like the tough, hard working, high energy, blue collar type of players that Hennigan has brought in. They're guys that fans can support and cheer for. No divas in this bunch.

I really like this move. We were really needing some toughness on defense.

Great signing for you guys.

I wanted Maxiell at the Bulls. He is a great vet to have around a team and had some quality games at Detroit.

Somewhat undersized but he provides defense, toughness, heart and hustle and will teach the kids to play the game the right way.

Don't undersell his off court attributes simply by looking at a PPG stat or anything.

When i think of him, i think of this play. Guy is a nice shot blocker.

i actually like this signing. Maxiell is consistent with the intense kind of defense that Harkless, Harris, O'Quinn and Oladipo already bring.

this also gives me hope that we'll see some real development from Vucevic on that front, especially since the standard is going to be set by all these other guys.

i really don't see any room for BBD anymore though.

Nicholson's reflexes are too slow. I don't think that anyone can teach that. An older Maxiell is still better than a younger Nicholson.

We get it already you don't like the signing. LOL at you saying it's so sad that Magic fans are excited. Maybe it's because we understand the signing and you don't? I really don't see the issue of signing him, especially with the contract we gave him. It's not always about talent. He could easily be a voice in the locker room and on the court for our young bigs. Yes we do have BBD, but this is a good sign that he's seriously going to be shop around before the trade deadline.

Hennigans always preaching about culture and wanting guys who want to be here, who want to.come night in and night out and play there hardest.. Well adding Maxiell is another sign he is sticking to his guns. Maxiell is a scrappy low post player not afraid to bang might not be an offensive threat but can still teach our young guys some things. I dont think I'm the only one who thinks Maxiell couldnt of gotten a deal with a contender.. That just shows for once our management isn't the laughing stock of the league "Otis Era.. Weisbrod Era" ... I love this signing its not a big splash but it strengthens us development wise because although being undersized maybe he can teach VucciMan more to expand his game.. my

I like the signing. The worst this could be is he mentors the young guys at a bargain price.
