Detroit Pistons sign draft picks KCP & Tony Mitchell

Post#1 » by Han Solo » Fri Jul 19, 2013 4:27 pm

The Detroit Pistons have signed 2013 draft picks Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Tony Mitchell to contracts. Terms of their deals were not disclosed.

Caldwell-Pope, the No. 8 overall pick out of Georgia in the NBA draft last month, averaged 13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals in 28.6 minutes per game during summer league games in Orlando earlier this month.

Mitchell, the No. 37 overall pick out of North Texas in the second round, averaged 7.8 points and 6.8 rebounds in 25.4 minutes.

That leaves Peyton Siva, the No. 56 overall pick, as the lone unsigned pick.

I have a feeling siva is going to either end up playing overseas or on another team...

KCP's contract is pretty much fixed by the CBA.

Mitchell's contract isn't, so it would be very interesting to know how long his deal is for. I'd like to think that the PIstons got a good deal on a 3 year contract, because this kid, if developed properly, could be outstanding.

Hopefully Siva agrees to play overseas so we retain his rights.

I hope so too but you never know that Stuckey or someone else could leave via a trade.

The obviously interesting part of this is that Siva did NOT get a contract yet. As much as I liked what he did in summer league, not sure if he's good enough to make the team. He's not better than Bynum, although he has more "potential". I guess we've got all summer to try and make a trade, otherwise, it's off to Europe.

Is it possible to sign him and assign him to D league all year without taking one of our roster spots?

We have until Sept to figure out what we're doing with Siva....lots of time to work some trades/etc before then.

Ive watched the highlights, and seen him play, but one thing the kid does not have, and cant be taught, is size. He will, unless hes strong as an OX, will be abused by almost everyone he guards.

This isn't a surprise. If they signed Siva they would be forced to remove a guaranteed contract off.

Hopefully something opens up. If not, it isn't a huge deal.

Resigning Bynum was the only move this summer , by Joe , that I didn't like.

I hate will Bynum. Pick up basketball at its finest. Unfortunately, it does not win us games. But he can really score , yea! Almost every player needs to be removed from last years team.

Except "the obvious ones" . Why would you bring back a 30 yr old pg!! Who only cares about bynumite time!

We simply don't have the space for Siva, and if he was on the team he'd probably never get any burn as we have 4 other players who can play his position on the team.

Best of luck to him.
