How come the Pistons didn't make Chauncey's number 1 a no-no for other players? He was an All-Star and Finals MVP for you guys. I've always wondered that, ever since the trade and Iverson wore it.

Just curious as to your objections to the number 0. Are you big into numerology? Does it predict an early death at the hands of evil spirits or something? Not a fan of the shape? Don't like the way the morphemes comes together in the word "zero?" Do you feel you should be able to multiply all of a team's uniform numbers together and get a really big number rather than end up with nothing? A combination of all those reasons?

I don't think there's a problem with some transitory players using it. Once Chauncey retires then the jersey will likely be in the rafters but until then it's fair game.

Look at the names on the Lakers' banners. They got it right in my opinion. Every single guy is deserving on their list. To me, a retired number should be more difficult to attain, and more prestigious than any other honor, including the hall-of-fame.

Chauncey was the leader of the Goin' to work team, and Ben was the heart and soul. Screw the HoF, both of those guys should have their jerseys retired.

Chauncey was far more important than you make him out to be...there is a reason why we got swept after he was traded, while a team that was a perennial 1st round exit team in the Nuggets went to the WCF. His off the court impact as a leader is really underrated.

They can go by whatever criteria they want. My opinion is that their standards are too low, and it doesn't mean as much to get your jersey retired by the Pistons as it does to get inducted into the Hall of Fame. My opinion is that being inducted to the HOF should basically be a prerequisite to getting your jersey retired. Which would, naturally, make getting your jersey retired more prestigious than getting into the Hall. I don't like seeing a bunch of very good players' names hanging in the rafters. I want the best of the best ONLY. And I'm not trying to downplay Chauncey's contributions -- they are impressive. I just don't think seven years of very good ball, along with a season at the end of his career is enough to earn it.

Who on that team was a top five player in the league? They played great basketball and a lot of that had to due to the tempo and the execution of Chauncey.
