Mavs waive C Bernard James
Don't know much about James, but ESPN is reporting they have let him go in order to maintain cap space. They just go Dalembert but are looking at Oden too. From the article, it sounds like his stats project to be decent with more PT. I wonder if Ferry will pick him up. Considering his low cap hit, I would nab him even if he spent most of his time in the D league next season.

Don't get your hopes up too much here. Often when you hear of a mini player getting cut for cap purposes, there's a handshake agreement that the player will re-sign with the original team. The only time I really remember someone bolting from an agreement like this was when Carlos Boozer left CLE for UTH, and that was definitely a special case since Boozer was in line to get a lot more $$ than the mini.
Having said that, James might be interested in listening to other offers. If DAL is cutting him to get a player who'd eat into his PT, he might think it to be more advantageous to go ahead and find a new team.

I agree that it'd be hard for DAL to just let him go. He seems to be a good defender with physical and intellectual talents that are above average: he's long, tall, strong . . . and military. A guy who stands 6'10" and a solid 240, 7'3" wingspan, vertical reach of 9'1". He can jump (33" vertical) AND he's a former staff sergeant in the Air Force? If I were to draw up the perfect backup Center, this guy is close.
For the analytics-guys, his per-36 numbers are 10.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.0 blocks per game.
