Re: Official Off-Season Trade/Rumor Thread
Yeah. We need everything we can get at this point to improve our front court. It looks like Bosh will start at the 5 again this season, however, we can make it a tad bit easier for him by adding in more front court player that can take some C minutes away from him.
Has anyone heard anything about Odom?

In addition to Marcus Camby, second-year center Bernard James has cleared waivers today, clearing way for James to re-sign with Mavericks

That's the problem. A lot of you seem content with finding someone for a limited role, when what the team needs is the exact opposite. A big who can play significant minutes at the 5, which would put Bosh there only when necessary.

There is no one that we can get.
Even tho I didn't want him, dalembert was probably the best center available within the mmle range, and even he went for 3.5per.

We're not gonna find that kind of player so consider the Camby recommendations a part of "keeping it real".

Lol, and who fits that role exactly?
Gotta play the hand you're dealt. At this point Camby fills a need and can still provide some minutes.

I think so too. IIRC I read that he really liked it there and that they were the frontrunners.

He actually played in some games.
Oden has had 3-4 major knee surgeries and has never stepped onto an NBA Court since 2009.

Re: Official Off-Season Trade/Rumor Thread
Is Earl Barron still available?
He put up 11 and 18 at the end of last season. Ex-heat, much better than Camby.

Re: Official Off-Season Trade/Rumor Thread
Take a little time and watch ANY game from ANY role playing, min salary center since Shaq left and ask yourself, who can play that style of Center for us?
I don't think either camby or oden can trap/hedge and recover , take charges, rebound, block a few shots and B effective offensively.
We've either had a team that one if the alpha dogs was a starting center or what we have now.
In order for a traditional center to come to this team and be as effective, he has to be one of the lead dogs not a min salary player.......IMHO
Again we're excited about Odens potential , he won't get a chance here as long as lbj/ wade are the lead dogs
Solution: play Birdman more and/or adjust the way we play the center position. Bosh cannot do this long term full time, just shortening this guys career

I guess Bosh'll happily have a 3 year shorter career if he has those 5 championship rings.

A traditional center coming here doesn't have to be a leaddog, he just has to have certain qualities that cover up for his lack of quickness in pick and roll coverage, mainly being a good rim protector, post-defender and rebounder. We wouldn't pick Oden up with hopes of him becoming a star. We would pick him up with hopes of him being a good rim protector, rebounder and a solid finisher around the rim. We don't need him to be a spectacular low post presence offensively. He could just possibly add another dimension to our team. Bird has a lot of qualities that can help us, but he's neither a great post-defender, nor an outstanding defensive rebounder. A guy like Oden could give us another dimension to bring in depending on who we play.

While I agree with the items I put in bold, this is not what Miami will use him for IMO, 2nd, I don't think we want him to be a STAR, the stars are already defined..
I am not sure, but I think YOu and others are looking at what ODEN did.has dine elsewhere and think he will have the opportunity to do the same thing here...Again, I say, look at how we've played ANY center after Shaq...Be a little objective, don't debate for debate sake....
regarding ODOM - just say no, he is not the same player professionally/personally as he once was....
I agree with everything you said, IF this is what Miami will do...which based on precedent/past observation, I am not convinced that ANY center will BE GIVING THE OPPORTUNITY to play in the manner we ALL WANT.

Did you read what I said? I said we wouldn't pick up Oden for him to be a star and you just repeated it as if I had said something differently.
So what centers did we have? Joel Anthony and old, washed up versions of Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Erick Dampier. Believe me, if Oden could be a solid roleplayer here, we would adapt our system to be more versatile. The problem is, we haven't had a decent center here since the Big Three era, so there wasn't a place to adapt to anything. It's worth it to bring Oden in on a minimum deal and see what he's got left and based on that make a decision in terms of playing time and system adjustments.
Also, how come you mention Lamar Odom while quoting my post? I never lost a word about him.
EDIT: I think you're the one arguing just to argue. Most of us wanna bring Oden in because he has the potential to make us more versatile and bring us something only guys we can't afford can deliver. Centers in this league are overpriced, so if there is an opportunity knocking on the door, we should go for it, especially since we're not losing anything if it doesn't work out.
