I am not sure, but I think YOu and others are looking at what ODEN did.has dine elsewhere and think he will have the opportunity to do the same thing here...Again, I say, look at how we've played ANY center after Shaq...Be a little objective, don't debate for debate sake....

regarding ODOM - just say no, he is not the same player professionally/personally as he once was....

I agree with everything you said, IF this is what Miami will do...which based on precedent/past observation, I am not convinced that ANY center will BE GIVING THE OPPORTUNITY to play in the manner we ALL WANT.

Did you read what I said? I said we wouldn't pick up Oden for him to be a star and you just repeated it as if I had said something differently.

So what centers did we have? Joel Anthony and old, washed up versions of Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Erick Dampier. Believe me, if Oden could be a solid roleplayer here, we would adapt our system to be more versatile. The problem is, we haven't had a decent center here since the Big Three era, so there wasn't a place to adapt to anything. It's worth it to bring Oden in on a minimum deal and see what he's got left and based on that make a decision in terms of playing time and system adjustments.

Also, how come you mention Lamar Odom while quoting my post? I never lost a word about him.

EDIT: I think you're the one arguing just to argue. Most of us wanna bring Oden in because he has the potential to make us more versatile and bring us something only guys we can't afford can deliver. Centers in this league are overpriced, so if there is an opportunity knocking on the door, we should go for it, especially since we're not losing anything if it doesn't work out.

WITHOUT all of the long comments, we are saying the same thing, read what you said about ODOM "we would adapt our system to be more versatile" - this is a TRUE STATEMENT...MY STATEMENT IS simple...when was the last time WE ADJUSTED for a role player.....this is a simple short question.

Again, everything you are saying would have some merit on ANY OTHER TEAM.......Z,DAMP, etc. were as washed up as ODEN/Camby may be/is. We're looking for a CENTER on the cheap to do what? play his game....NO, play Miami Heat defense/style........hedging/trapping/taking charges/recovering, etc....all of that before he gets to "play his game"

IT DOESN'T matter what Center we get, he will have to adjust to the things WE allow 'role playing" centers to do. That's why I don't care who we sign at the CENTER position...

We need to stop spending so much time on players that are really not that interested in joining our team. A friend of mine mentioned he overheard ODEN say "he's still young and wants to re-establish himself" said he "wasn't a min player yet" - take it for what it's worth.

Of course he's not a minimum player ideally, but he needs a season to prove he can stay healthy first.

I'm confused WD, how do you disagree with this:

"We wouldn't pick Oden up with hopes of him becoming a star. We would pick him up with hopes of him being a good rim protector, rebounder and a solid finisher around the rim."

You said you agreed with it, but that it wouldn't be what the Heat would use him for. I don't get that; he'd do all three of those things for us. We adjusted our pick and roll coverage for Eddy Curry's limited stint, why couldn't we for a player that could actually protect the rim? Part of the reason we have to play pick and rolls so aggressively is because we're so thin inside.

Who says Oden doesn't want to be here? We know nothing. He and his agent have been showing interest in us since the summer before his last season in Portland. He flew down to Miami right after the Finals.

ok, I was making a general comment...NO ONE ON THESE boards know WHO wants to sign here...just curious R U sure we adjusted our pick and roll game for curry?

There is nothing to be confused about, I am for anything and anyone that can improve this team...we just have to disagree with the process of obtaining that player..

He actually played in some games.

Oden has had 3-4 major knee surgeries and has never stepped onto an NBA Court since 2009.

Oden's actually had 5 major knee surgeries. Camby's still going to be 40 in 7 months.

The fact that he's apparently willing to take on the role of third back-up center in Houston behind Howard and Asik says all that needs to be said about what Camby still believes he has left to contribute.

Yes WD. Spo spoke about using the old Shaq pick-and-roll coverage when Curry was on the floor.

Mars, my assumption was that they're telling Camby they'll move Asik if he comes. I figured they wanted to have a backup C in place before dealing him.

Watching the summer league has really made me feel like a wannabe scout

Having said that, I wish we could give a camp invite to that center on the Lakers team, Travis Hyman. A fast 7 footer that runs like a gazelle, rebounds well and blocks a lot of shots. I love that he's a smart shot blocker, he times it well and jumps at the perfect time. He had 5 blocks last game. As with most bigs, his offense isn't perfect (he'd be on a roster if it was), but his jump shot form looks nice and he gets a lot of baskets around the rim.

He looks interesting, but that's just my opinion

We never adjusted to a system with a true center because we never had one capable enough of filling that role. I don't know what's so hard to grasp about it. San Antonio's Big Three hasn't changed over the years, but their playing style has. You can bet your ass if we can pick up a traditional center that we'll install some defensive schemes that'll help us against certain teams such as Indiana when we'll have a big who can guard a guy like Hibbert one-on-one and we won't be forced to front him or get abused by him.
If you don't think adding another dimension is a good idea because we're not gonna adapt to certain opponents, then you must think our coaching staff is ignorant and stupid.

I wonder why comments are replied to with a negative under tone? Difference of opinions are usually met with subtle attacks on a persons intelligence.

What's funny is most of the time we R saying the same thing, I think it is "messenger" rather than message issue.

Anyway it is what it is

Read the comments above from the two guys watching the same game, simple difference of opinions. One thinks the player in question rebounds well, while the other responds with a question mark

I'm pretty sure it's solely a business move. If they can acquire Camby, Asik will be the odd man out. Given that both his and Lin's contracts are due for massive increases next year, Houston would have to move at least one of them. Since they acquired somebody at Asik's position, that makes him the logical choice. Morey just doesn't wanna come off as desperate in order to be in the driver's seat for Asik negotiations.

Marcus Camby played for the rockets

And they gave him his wish to sign and trade him back to NY where he began his career

He's not going there for playing time, he's going to finish his career.

Why would u move Asik if you're Houston? You have HOWARD, and now he is free to play defense without being afraid of fouling out, since he knows he has Asik to come in for him in case of foul trouble

See Magic HOWARD. They were never the same once Gortat left

I think Asik would be a great pure backup to Dwight, but they can't play together. It's a waste of money for Houston and a waste of Asik's abilities.

Heat Could Have $50M In Cap Space Next Offseason

The Miami Heat could have approximately $50 million in cap space next offseason.

LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade all have opt-out clauses in their contracts, representing $61 million in salary for 14-15. All three could opt out to assure more guaranteed years at the maximum allowed under the CBA, but they also could structure their deals in a way that allows the Heat more flexibility.

The $50 million estimate assumes Haslem, Anthony and Andersen don't become free agency and the Heat pick up their option on Norris Cole's rookie contract.

James and Bosh figure to be recruited by other teams, but they could add a fourth big name player if they all take significantly less. Wade has already expressed a willingness to take the biggest pay cut to create cap space for teammates.

The cap holds for James, Bosh and Wade would be larger than their reduced salaries under that scenario.
