Re: Around The NBA 2.0
Found this nugget in a USA Today story about the Cats' name change.
"It seems that there's an arena (in Las Vegas) that is getting closer to moving ahead after years and years of discussions, and that should make it interesting," Stern said. Moments later, after declining to predict whether the league might expand anytime soon by declaring that his crystal ball had already retired, Stern said, "It wouldn't surprise me if Commissioner Silver was looking at strong applications from Las Vegas and Seattle in the coming years. I'm going to enjoy watching it."
Hopefully the Sonics get their team back soon, and another team in Vegas would make for a nice even number (plus exactly half, instead of over half, of the teams would make the playoffs each year. I like that.). Add those two teams out west and bring Memphis east.

Re: Around The NBA 2.0
The only potential issue is that the league is worried about the inreased gambling probability of a team being in Vegas. As long ago as the Donaghy scandal was, people are always going to question if a game is rigged or not. I personally like the idea of adding two more teams out west and then bringing Memphis back east, although they would be an automatic playoff bid because the East is so much easier than the West.
Mike Malone was never given a fair chance in Sacramento, and Ranadive will soon come to regret that, when he's on top of the WC inevitably contending somewhere

I am shocked he hasn't at least latched on somewhere for decent money. It would be hilarious if he went overseas.catch20two wrote:lmcguir5 wrote:Anyone have any idea as to where Brandon Jennings is going to end up? As awkward as it will be, he'll have no choice but to return to Milwaukee on the QO. At least that's my guess. I can see them trading him midseason before he walk on them next summer though.

Typo?

TORONTO (AP) -- The Raptors have signed D.J. Augustin to a one-year deal, so he can back up starting point guard Kyle Lowry.
The 25-year-old defensive specialist was drafted out of Texas 9th overall by Charlotte in 2008. In 358 career games with Indiana and Charlotte, Augustin has averaged 9.6 points and 4.0 assists in 24.5 minutes.

Compared to Jose Calderon, he very well may be.

Bless their hearts. They might figure out a way to get in there but they've got some ill-fitting pieces on paper. The frontcourt is solid but that backcourt, it'll be an adventure.

I laugh my ass off any time someone mentions the big 3 of Detroit's frontcourt. No way they are going to play Josh Smith at the 3 alongside Monroe and Drummond all the time. Smith might be a worse shooter than Mullens. Spacing is going to be terrible.

I completely agree,
The Pistons are going to flame out this season imo, their roster literally makes no sense.
I'm loving all the Piston's fans proclaiming that Drummond is their 'best' or 'star' player when they literally have 2 other bigs that are much better than him at this point.
I imagine Drummond will come off the bench again and they'll go with a Smoove/Moose frontcourt which is a beast frontcourt in the East.

Spacing is going to be a complete nightmare. I agree with you, I just don't see how they're going to get Drummond, Monroe and Smith all on the floor and have any sort of offensive flow. It seems like it would just be one big cluster**** in the paint.

If they just play smith and moose to start the game and have Drummond off the bench they'll be fine.

Piston fans are so stuck up Drummond's ass they may riot if he doesn't start

They have nobody to pass them the ball either. Calderon's gone, Stuckey and Knight are far from good passers. The only have decent passer they have is Will Bynum. That is not good.

Re: Around The NBA 2.0
It will be interesting to see how they figure out that big man rotation. I could see starting J-Smoove at the 3 with Moose and AD1 at the 4 and 5 at the beginning and end of games just for sheer defensive purposes and stymie opposing starter's offenses (usually the best offensive players). Drummond is an x-factor right now, he's not a great overall player but what he can do is borderline elite/rare and makes a huge impact. Personally, I like the idea of starting Smoove and Drummond (Smith is gonna chuck and Drummond is a safety net thanks to his defense/athleticism) and let Moose chew up bench bigs on the 2nd unit.
The problem with all this is that they're coached by Mo Cheeks, who couldn't properly utilize big men if he was getting directions from Phil Jackson like God speaking to King Arthur from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I would probably bet money that Rasheed is excused from the team during midseason from cussing out Mo Cheeks.
Switching gears, where would everybody like to see Oden end up out of the rumored teams per the wire tap (Mavs, Pelicans, Heat, Spurs, Kings, Hawks)?
If he returns to glory: Pelicans or Kings just to breath some life into some new blood.
If he gets injured again: Heat or Hawks.

Re: Around The NBA 2.0
Of those teams the Heat makes the most sense for him. However he really should have gone to Phoenix. With is history he should be on a team with an amazing medical staff.
Detroit's biggest issue will be PG with Calderon gone. Second biggest issue will be floor spacing when they try to go big. However it's very possible that they make a mid-season trade if they are serious about getting to the playoffs. I wouldn't write them off, though I agree that their current roster needs some changes if they are serious about getting a lot better this year ... but they are in a spot where a single good trade could make a lot of difference.

My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I honestly just don't see Detroit being that much of a playoff threat, but maybe because I don't respect them at all. They do have a nice frontcourt, but their guard play even with Chauncey is going to be shotty at best. What pieces do they have to move though in the event they are on the precipice of the playoffs? We technically own the rights to their first rounder this year, and they don't have players that could fetch value on the block that aren't starting

Drummond if they choose not to start him has value, but they over value him so much that he wont be going anywhere.
