Grizzlies Want Mike Miller

Post#1 » by PAGrizzFan » Mon Jul 22, 2013 4:34 pm

Already have Pera/Levien go down to FL to talk to him. Conley has talked to him over the phone and Gasol on his honeymoon has also talked to Miller. Joerger is going down today to talk to him as well.

OKC and Memphis are the front-runners with Houston and Denver also in discussion.

I like that not only is Coach J going to talk to him, it'll be at MM's home in SD.

IF and at this point it is a mighty big IF we are successful in acquiring Miller does he start at the SF position opposite of Tony Allen at SG and ahead of Quincy? I would feel more comfortable with MM starting as Quincy is somewhere between this years playoff performance and last year's LA Clipper implosion.

That has to be the play and would bring balance to the lineup, a starting gig is something none of the other teams can offer. The money will be similar regardless of the destination, its the minutes that would matter most. We already lost out on the Italian because of it (and offering 3 times less than what he eventually got)

At one point in time MM was attempting to sell his Collierville home, I don't know if he still has it but I do know his brother is running an AAU team here in the city. He still has plenty of local ties so a potential move back to familiar surroundings may be an easy sell.

Starting Miller is not the worst idea I've ever heard, considering he'll be helped by playing with 3 All-NBA defenders (conley made it too, right?).

I would suggest being a bit flexible, though. Prince and Q are better options when we play LBJ, KD, and Melo.

What happens to Prince if you start Miller and bring Q off the bench as the first SF?

I think we all know Prince is pretty much done at this point in his career, but benching him would make him essentially unmovable (even more so than he is already).

Pondexter is capable of playing the 2. The real question is do we want to play Bayless primarily at PG. I don't, but he is better than the young guys (wroten and calathes) at this point.

I think it is almost a certainty that Prince will be traded provided they can acquire something more suitable.

If the report out of Minnesota is accurate the Grizz were willing to trade Prince there for just cap relief in return, they did not want players back. By committing to Tony Allen you can not play the two of them at the same time and he is too expensive to bring off the bench here in Memphis.

Yup, heard we are trying to trade him for nothing. At this point I would not be opposed to playing him at the Point/Forward when Conley goes to the bench for 8-10 mins a game. Then give Q/Miller their 6-8 minute rests.

I hope you guys get him, this is the only place I want to see him. He helped us close the Thunder out and had some big games for us. :D

If we can straight cap dump him that would be great. Problem is that the only team i can think of that could want him is detroit.

Dealing calderon for him really made no sense

ZBO should pickup his dinner tab this season because he is going to create a lot of space for him to work.

Nice. Plays that slow tempo like you guys but stretches the floor beautifully. I'm glad he pick a spot he called home for 5 years over another team.

What now Allen, Prince, Miller, Pondexter for the wings? Guess Bayless will be primarily backup 1 & Wroten won't be in the rotation?

Maybe starting Miller is a good idea. Still just a great wing option to have & a great guy.

millers averaged less than 50 games the last 4 seasons. So this isnt a good signing unless he can stay healthy on the court.

Doesn´t really matter at almost no cost. He´s not a player you need to integrate into your offense, so if he misses time he doesn´t need an adjustment period.

To be frank, i´d think it would be a good idea to play him very limited minutes and give him games off in between to try and have him somewhat healthy in the playoffs. Because that´s where you really need a guy like him to stretch the floor with teams keying in on your best players.

Great pick up for the Grizzlies.

3p shooting was what was lacking for your team last season. That was exposed in a big way by Pops and the Spurs, who just crowded ZBo and Gasol in the paint. With Miller on the floor they wouldn't have been able to do that, and this might have been enough to turn the series around.

With Miller I would put Memphis tied for 2nd in the West (slightly behind the Spurs and tied with the Clippers).
I'd say the Grizzlies need another shooter to put them at the top of the West.

Anyway, congratulations.
Let it fly :)

I have this fantasy where Tony Allen is currently working 10 hours per day with a shooting coach.

He is.
Only he's playing defense on the shooting coach, not letting him make one shot during those 10 hours.

Miller says this is the healthiest he has been in years and is already in the gym.
