Really not at all impressed with Wall's "improved" form on his jumper.

Saw that John Wall is a candidate for this year's ESPN body issue. Won't post the pics but there is an interesting quote: He said he's cut up now and weighed in at 210. Thats 15 lbs heavier than his rookie year. Dude looks strong.

Wall was listed with a 8'-5.5" standing reach at 196 pounds. If he's grown about an inch since then, as suggested by Flip Saunders 2 years ago, he's probably got a standing reach in the neighborhood of 8'7". At a weight of 210 pounds, the guy has legit SF size.

Great, so that's 7 players on our roster that can play SF.

I hope I don't jinx it but it really does feel like we're on the precipice of a Derrick-Rose-esque breakout season here. With Beal and Porter as running mates and 2 hulks at PF and C in Nene and Okafor...

CAN'T WAIT.

Thing is he had a Rose-esque breakout to end the season. If he simply maintains that level of play he's a legit top 10 player. If he improves beyond that he could be in the LeBron, Durant, Paul stratosphere.

Right. And if he does that with the Wizards also having the other players they do, then whats their record.

They were already 13-3 with Wall, Beal and Nene starting and beat the best in the league last year. If Wall turns into a superstar, they will get more calls and more calls means more road wins. Also, the refs will get instructed to call it so the Wizards win more games.

It you put together the right talent, with a star, and some marketable personalities, the NBA will blow some extra wind in your sails. And the NBA has been waiting forever for the Wizard to get their act together. I wrote about this several times over the last 3 or 4 years. Washington is a huge market. The NBA would love to tap that like a fat bottomed girl.

Wages of Wins did a piece on this.

Is it legal for the NBA to rig games?

I recently attended the Western Economics Association conference in Seattle. I heard a fantastic talk on a type of analytics, that I’ll confess, is out of my wheelhouse – sports law analytics. And while listening, I heard something that floored me: it may be legal, via federal laws, for the NBA to change the outcome of games.

As you'll know... I am the resident expert at evaluating interviews

Well, this might be the most confident I have ever seen wall. And he looks like he is in great shape.

I think a ,,,take the league by storm ... season just might be in the cue.

Edited 7/25/13 Wall nearing 80M extension

One pretty midrange jumper for every day of the week until the season starts (can't wait). And a find to Martell in the corner on sundays :-)

Wizards set up talks for Wall's extension

LAS VEGAS –- The Wizards have begun talking with John Wall’s agent, Dan Fegan, regarding an extension before the regular season, CSN Washington has learned.

Wall, the No. 1 overall pick in 2010, is eligible for up to a four-year, max contract with the Wizards in addition to the final year remaining on his deal that will pay him $7.45 million next season. If he's named the franchise's designated player, Wall can get five years.

If the Wizards cannot reach an agreement with him by Oct. 30, talks will have to be tabled until after the 2013-14 regular season.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

What does "begun talking" mean? What is there to talk about? You give him a max extension now, or you don't. There's nothing else to say.

Well there's the debate of the 5 year extension or the 4 year, although that's more of something we need to discuss internally.

There's also the possibility that we'd try and convince Wall to take a slight discount to help out the team, although I don't expect we'd push very hard, and I get the impression Wall wants the full max. Not to mention the slight discount he would theoretically take probably wouldn't have very significant cap ramifications anyways, so it's no biggie.

Honestly I'd prefer we wait. Yeah, it'd be nice to be proactive about it and show him how confident we are in him this far in advance of the deadline, but I'd rather wait until training camp, just to make sure that Wall's healthy. Imagine if we sign him to the extension now, then in a couple months he's nursing another semi-serious injury like he was last season. That would suck. I'd rather just wait the extra few months, and still lock him up to a max deal, even for 5 years, in October as long as he's healthy.

One thing about Wall, I think he has that level of pride that he wants to be the best and I expect to see him setting the goal as being the best. D Rose has respect that he wants and I expect him to go right after him to take it.

We never got to see the Wall at his best against D Rose.

This year is going to be the start of that battle. And D Rose is throwing out the press clipping to motivate Wall.

My view.. after a year of not playing, Rose should just keep his mouth shut, get back on the court and let his play speak for itself. But in his defense, it was a set up question. Probably could have answered it with confidence in a different way.

Anyway, I expect Wall to totally beast this year. Add the Magic Beal at his side, and I think we are about to see something really special.

Two All Starts. One possible MVP candidate.

I agree.

Seriously, their goal should be appreciably higher than that. They should be pushing to be the best backcourt in the league quite frankly. The talent is definitely there for them at least to get into that conversation, perhaps as soon as this season.

I agree.

I agree as well, how many backcourts are definitively better right now?

Curry/Klay
CP3/Jamal
Harden/Someone
Parker/Manu?
D. Williams/Joe Johnson

I don't think any backcourt in the NBA anymore is composed of two superstars...so we really just need one of Wall/Beal to get there. Truthfully, I think Beal will end up being the better player, but John made encouraging strides last season.
