Some people I think dont understand the financial system in the NBA the luxury tax that is payed in the summer comes from the the just finished season so if the Lakers bring in Okafor and Ariza they pay the Lux tax bill on those 2 which would be more than what they would pay if they just finished out the roster with a couple vet minimum contracts.

This isn't directed just at KingLakers... I just think there are a lot of people out there that seem to have vastly different ideas of what Ariza's actually worth. I'd like to get an idea of what that looks like.

I think perhaps he would be worth his contract in the old CBA but in the current one all of the grandfathered in MLE contracts are slightly overpaid. 3 and D players like Sefolosha, Green, and Battier are all getting ~4m.

In this new CBA I would say somewhere in the range of $4-6mill.

Honestly, being that he's still young and athletic (28 years old), id say at his 7.7mill for 1 year is more than fair. (6.5-7mill if he resigns). Battier and tabo are either old or confined to 3 and D and nothing else because of their lack of athleticism or in tabos case, game. Ariza can still put up 10+ppg on more than just open threes (which he's ideal for) being able to create easy shots using his athleticism and deceptive speed.

Also, unlike tabo and battier, he is able to defend quicker guards better than they can and he does so exceptionally well (just ask Jamal Crawford). He's a high IQ player who's an underrated rebounder and passer and tends to put himself in great positions for great shots (when playing a natural complimentary role).

Btw: I know the questions wasnt directed at me Kilroy :) but the dude it was directed at, know this: MWP being picked up in NY (1.7mill this year) means LA is off the hook for that amount. Meaning Artest only costs us 6mill ATM. Meeks+Blake (5.55mill) means wed only be paying 450k for Ariza. Not bad if you ask me

His negotiations soured his future with the Lakers, but Trevor Ariza’s sentiments toward his former team still seems sentimental. It’s also clear that Ariza maintains a long-affection for Kobe Bryant. He even wore his No. 8 Lakers jersey as he walked through Philadelphia and posted a picture of it on his Instagram account.
