Wayne Selden= Underrated

Post#1 » by bigboi » Thu Jul 25, 2013 2:23 am

Lets talk about Selden is one of the most underrated players in this class. Dude is already NBA size at 6'5, 220 and is a freak of an athlete, honestly he is similar to Westbrook, more athletic IMO. I see people like Marcus Smart and Aaron Gordon being rated above him, but he will go higher than both of them, mark my words, his potential is too ridiculous.

Has great NBA potential to play both guard spots in the NBA. Needs to keep his size under control. Doesn't want to get any bigger or his quickness and speed will begin to be effected. Luckily he has a great strength and conditioning coach at KU. Already has very good skills but not great at anything right now. Capable shooter, ball handler, and potential to be a great defender but must refine his skills. Decisions making will need to improve as well especially if he plays both guard spots when he gets to the NBA.

I feel he's a guy who's gonna go late lottery no matter whether he goes pro after this year or next. The next two drafts are going to be loaded and Selden is going to be a key figure in those drafts no matter when he goes pro.

Crazy talent and potential on KU this year between Wiggins, Selden, and Embiid.

Underrated by who? Most people have him as a top 10 draft pick.

Gordon is not a good basketball player, he will bust hard in college and Smart doesn't really have anything better than Selden other than college experience.

He is actually quite overrated, at least here, he is a big guy, but his quickness is not suited for any Guard spot, he's a 6-5 SF, he will stay 2 years at Kansas, reminds me of Ty Evans.

I concur with the Tyreke Evans comparison. Selden plays above the rim more and I think that bodes well for him in the NBA. Tyreke killed it in college and was the number one rated pick in many minds, so...I think you'll see Wayne Selden in the NBA next year.

Got ahead of myself. He was ahead of Thabeet in everybody's opinion except for somebody in Memphis. Harden at three was a surprise to many. Griffin was consensus one, but many people liked Evans at one or two. I think Selden will have similar collegiate success, which was my point.

Does Selden not remind anyone else of Derrick Rose?

not me. his athleticism is being overrated in this thread. he's lost some of his explosiveness as he's put on more weight. i actually think he needs to lean out a bit.
he's more of a "head of steam" guy in terms of speed and his overall quickness is unimpressive.

First of all, he's nothing like Tyreke Evans at all. Evans is not that athletic of a player, while Selden is a man child. Second, he's definitely quick enough for SG, he might not be Monts Ellis quick, but he's easily around Harden's level of quickness. I doubt he stays two years, he's going to get a lot of time this year and he honestly should be able to play better than Mclemore, he's a better prospect.

McLemore was not sharing touches with Andrew Wiggins.

Not really sure he could get any leaner. He has very little body fat. He doesn't need to add anymore muscle though. Now he just needs to continue to tone up and get his speed and athleticism up. That will improve though at KU with the strength and conditioning program which is one of the very best in the nation. You'll see big time improvements in his speed and athleticism, especially if he stays more than one year. That said he's no chump. He's still pretty damn athletic for his size.

Not really sure how anyone can question Selden's ability to defend guards considering no one has seen him do it yet in college. I don't know whether he's a great defender yet or not but we'll definitely see it at KU.

I think athleticism and speed wise Harden is a very strong comparison. Harden isn't a guy who's going to out run or jump over other players. Harden is a good shooter, crafty, and makes smart decisions. That's how he is as good as he is on offense. Selden has the handles to be crafty like Harden and his shooting has improved since last summer. Selden was also called the best at running pick plays in his 2013 class by several recruiting analysts. That's a huge strength for Selden and we know how big the pick-n-roll is in the NBA.

I feel Selden could find himself somehwere in the 8-14 range in next years draft. He stays at KU though for a 2nd season where like most other KU players improves his shooting, decision making, and his athleticism he could find himself in the question for top 5. At the least he'll be more prepared for the NBA to make an impact right away.
