C Gustavo Ayon released (Bucks)

Post#1 » by Piston Pete » Fri Jul 26, 2013 3:02 pm

I'm sorry to do this, because I know we debate about seemingly everyone who becomes available, but Ayon could fill a major need for us as a backup C behind Drummond. He's quite a bit better than Kravtsov and could be had for cheap.

PF - Monroe / Mitchell / CV / Jerebko
C - Drummond / Ayon / Kravtsov

We just don't have the room right now. I could see Joe adding a piece if he does a 2 for 1 type deal. Until he does, I think our roster is pretty much set. I also think you are making a mistake thinking Mitchell sees minutes over DNP-CV. I think CV will get minutes to boost his trade value some. I see the depth chart like this:

G Brandon Knight /Will Bynum
G Chauncey Billups /Rodney Stuckey/ Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
F Josh Smith / Kyle Singler /Khris Middleton
F Greg Monroe / Charlie Villanueva / Jonas Jerebko / Tony Mitchell
C Andre Drummond / Slava Krastov

I'd really love to see KCP and Mitchel get PT and improve in the D-League.

No thanks.

Also can we just start a "this guy got cut, should we sign him thread"

I think he would be a very good signing and there are certainly guys on this squad I would cut in order to add him.

The guys a stiff. But, I do appreciate the unintentional comedy. Every crappy free agent that nobody wants, you guys feel he's some kind of missing piece.

Detroit doesn't need an upgrade for Slava- barring injury he will barely every play anyways. Drummond and Moose will man all the minutes at C.

He's a stiff but he knows how to play and we will need another center once Monroe gets traded.

And, please, do tell. When is it exactly that Monroe will get traded?

Additionally, may I request the winning lottery numbers from next weeks mega millions?

Moose will be an all star next year imo. We're not trading a 23 year old all star.

He just had a great showing in last night's team USA game. So did Drummond. Monroe is going nowhere, unless an young all-star PG shows up for us in a trade for him.

I completely agree with that. I feel Knight would be better for the SG spot with our need for outside shooting and defense.

I'd rather get veteran big like Camby, Collins, or Przybilla before getting a young player.

Camby? Maybe yes. Collins and Pryzbilla? Come the F on.

There's not whole lot of cheap, veteran big man left.

Marcus Camby has only played in 64 games out of 246 in the last three seasons, averaging 4.2 PPG, 7.1 rebs (3.3 last year) while averaging roughly 19 MPG. Bottom line- Camby is washed up and incredibly injury prone.

I'm not saying that Camby will make us a championship contender. I just think we should sign a veteran big, in case
Slava doesn't improve or Greg/Andre is in foul trouble.

Ayon isn't exactly young either, I think he's 28. Veteran bigs likely won't sign with us because we're not a contender, they would prefer to wait for someone to get injured mid-season so they can chase a ring.
