Back-up PG Options

Post#1 » by PAGrizzFan » Sat Jul 27, 2013 6:05 pm

I don't think anyone could be a bigger fan of Wroten, but guy was just a disappointment at Summer League. I know he was playing with 0-1 NBA players, but his shot still looked miserable and still didn't finish with his right hand. Still think A LOT of potential with him since he is only 19, but we need a vet PG as well.

I posted this in the Mike Miller thread, but think deserves own thread.

I want a vet that can run an offense and shot an a 3 point shot. He doesn't have to be a PG per say because I truly believe that Prince can also play point/forward at times and bring the ball up. So, here are my options in order.

Mike James - guy is old as dirt, 38, but played pretty well for Mavs last year he shot 38.4% from 3 and 80% from FT%

Mo Williams - guessing too expensive, but becoming a legit options as more times passes and shot 38.5% from 3 for career.

Leandro Barbosa - a solid G that can play both positions. Always been a good defender and decent size at 6'3" and a career 39% from 3.

Daniel Gibson - a tad smaller for SG, but a career 40% 3-point shooter.

Roger Mason Jr. - SG who shot 43.3% from 3 last year and career 40%.

Who else you guys got?

I saw the few games on Summer Leagues this year. Yeah you are right. Tony Wroten still has same problems as season. lack of perimeter shooting and lack of game making. If he is not ready on the season this is not good for backup point guard again. You know Bayless game make ability isn't that good either. In other word Bayless play well when he play as backup shooting guard. I hope Wroten are able to step up next season. Otherwise Mike Conley playtimes will never decrease next season again.

Memphis Grizzlies are said to be "in the mix" for Mo Williams and Delonte West.

Still hard to pinpoint a frontrunner for Mo Williams but hearing Grizzlies are firmly in mix for vet PG who's unexpectedly still available

Mo is not a horrible option, but hes kind of similar to bayless. I would prefer a defensive pg who can hit threes. The only guy available seems to be west tho, and hes a headcase.

Tbh though, the bayless/prince combo could be our best bet. I know we are trying to dump prince but there dont seem to be many takers.

I'd be pumped if we could get either West or Williams even though each presents issues.

IIRC, Williams wants to be a starter, which is probably the reason why he is still unsigned.

West's issues are well-documented, but I think our veteran locker room could keep him in check -- otherwise, I'd hope for a non-guaranteed (or minimally guaranteed) contract that permits the organization to waive him at the drop of a hat if issues crop up.

In the end, I think Williams demands more money than we are willing to pay, so I think we take a flyer on West.

There were some rumors here in Europe about Milos Teodosic not accepting 2y/6m offer from Grizzlies but I didn't see anything about that here, is it true or just rumor?

Williams may demand more money, but he is slowing changing his tune with almost a month of FA gone and no offer for him. He now saying if he doesn't get a good offer will play for a contender.

Have to remember when talking about West, we have Tony Allen. TA can rein him in, heck West was a best man at TA's wedding a few weeks ago. So not concerned at all with West.

Would not doubt it, Grizz will become big players in the Europe scene in the coming years.

Mo Will!!! Would be perfect.

Conley-Williams-Wroten
Allen-Bayless-Franklin
Prince-Pondexter-Miller
Randolph-Davis-Leuer
Gasol-Koufos

That is a very nice team. Your 3rd string backcourt is very exciting to me. Minutes will be tight obviously, but Allen Prince Miller aren't young guns anyways.

I hope Eddy Davis gets some serious burn this year! He's good hopefully the new coach will get him there.

I don't love the idea of trying to play defense with Mo Williams, Bayless, and Mike Miller all on the court.

Koufos and Ed Davis will have their hands full.

http://www.sportando.net/eng/europe/tur ... offer.html

Sportando is usually reliable source of basketball infos, but i saw it only there while there was no feedback from USA.So my question is do you think this might be true or just wishful thinking of player's agent?

Haven't heard anything about this, but it wouldn't surprise me if this were true. Grizz FO is being very aggressive/creative in trying to round out the rotation.

I was digging a little deeper and found out that reason agent turned down that offer is probably in order to guarantee his client better contract or ensure his future in CSKA, considering team already brought quality PG for next season.

IMO i think he might be good fit for Grizz, he is inconsistent defender but Grizzlies already being good defensive team overall would probably cover that up.His body is probably not NBA ready and psychical guards would make him trouble but i doubt somebody would like to get psychical with ZBo setting picks :D High BBIQ, creative player capable of dishing flashy assists and giving easy buckets to teammates, good handles and something you call "true PG".

I would be happy with Williams. His best days are so far behind him it's not funny, but he can at least run point like a real point guard (yes, that was directed at you Bayless) and he can shoot threes better than nearly anyone in our team (except maybe Conley has he has improved out of sight this year).

And considering there aren't that many options left. I hope he get him.
