Re: Greg Oden to Miami?
He'd be stupid to pick NO. They're going to lose 50 games, and he'd be playing with a trio of ball-dominant guards that will be far more interested in getting their own than getting him going. He'd also be a distant second priority in terms of development behind Davis. They're going to try to feature Davis and everything they do will be about making Davis comfortable. That's probably not good news for other frontcourt players.
On the Heat, we have an established team. Everyone is comfortable. The regular season is an exhibition round for us. We can focus single-mindedly on incorporating Oden and making sure he's fitting into his role. Anything he can do would be gravy. Just by being 7 feet tall, rotating, and catching balls that hit him in the hands, he'd look like a quality player with us.

Fun facts :

This is considered baiting. This is your only warning.
EDIT: Wait...how many warnings do you already have against your record? Wow.

NO would be a better pick because he would get more playing time and he would be more of a priority for them. Davis is not a Center, he is a power forward and pairing Oden next to him would be great for them. They are not necessarily a lottery team either. They could easily make the playoffs especially if Oden joins and can contribute.
Plus, it's not like he is automatically going to start and be the feature post player if he were in Miami. He would be exactly what Chris Andersen is. A big man that has no plays run for him and plays about 15 mpg.
Oden had trouble off the court when he was in Portland. He stated that he was practically an alcoholic. With the Miami nightlife, that might actually not be good for him.
If he is just looking to win a ring, Miami is clearly the better option, but to some NBA players, it's not all about that. It can be about money and it can be about playing time and if that's the case, Oden will choose NO.

Very logical for him to go to new orleans then.

He became an Alcoholic because he was depressed. No matter how much time he put into his rehab and getting stronger he kept getting hurt. Pssh, I would be depressed too.

Actually, that's not true at all...
Greg got exactly what he wanted in his second year, only the results were disastrous. That's because it wasn't an NBA veteran who took Greg under his wing in his second season—it was his veteran cousin from the Air Force who moved into Greg's house in Portland.
"If you know anything about guys in the Air Force," Greg explained, "it's that they drink a ton. My cousin got wrapped up in the NBA lifestyle and threw parties at my house all the time. So I got wrapped up in it too. When I played well, I'd drink to celebrate. And when I played poorly, I'd drink to forget. That second year in Portland I pretty much became an alcoholic."
Pretty much he was easily influenced to drink a ton, so he did.

Re: Greg Oden to Miami?
Look our team has been built on SACRIFICE!! Everyone from Lebron (Best player in the world) down to James Jones, have sacrificed to be on the HEAT and win. The culture we have built on the HEAT is "To WIN at any cost". Now if Oden wants to play for the money, more power to him. You can never blame a guy for trying to make money in life. But he has to have that mentality of sacrifice if he wants to win.
But that really is the question: What does Oden want? Money or Winning? (either way.. can't blame the guy)

At that time he was the "Prince of Portland" with everything he wanted right at his feet. Right now he's just trying to make it into the NBA, to show he belongs. why would you do anything to mess that up?

Looks like he's down to the Heat and the Pelicans. Before the we got on his list, I never thought he'd consider us realistically, but I hope we can snag him.
If not, I was always a big fan of Greg going to the Heat. It would be great for him, and you guys, so if we miss out, I'll be pulling for him to make a big impact in Miami!

I don't really agree on either count. I don't think Oden CAN play more than 15-20 minutes per game. Even when he was last healthy, he was averaging under 25 minutes per game. It would be a bad idea for him to try to play extended minutes any time soon. He needs to be a 15mpg guy wherever he goes, at least for this year. That being the case, I don't think NO can actually offer him more minutes. They have more available minutes, but he can't play them anyway. He'll have no problem getting his fill of minutes in Miami. We've got Bosh, Birdman, and Battier taking up about 70 of our 96 mpg at PF/C. That leaves more than enough for Oden.
And I don't really agree about priority, either. Like I said, New Orleans prioritizes Davis way over Oden. They also have two new, young star guards coming in. They have a lot of moving pieces that mean a lot more to the franchise than Oden would. They need to carve out roles for Holiday, Davis, and Evans before they even think about Oden.
I also think there's no way they make the playoffs. OKC, SA, Houston, Memphis, LAC, GS, and Denver are all locks. Then you've got the Lakers, Dallas, Portland, the TWolves, and NO fighting for the last spot. The West is loaded and I think NO is going to end up on the outside looking in. They're going to be horrendous defensively.

If he had alcohol problems in Portland, he's not going to find any respite in New Orleans or Miami. Honestly not worried about that. The dedication it takes to rehab from what he's been through pretty much proves he's moved past that stage in his life. He is clearly serious about reviving his career.

I know you want Oden in Miami, but if Oden wants and thinks he can play more than like 10-15 mpg then he is obviously going to want to go to a team that gives him more minutes to give him more of a chance to contribute and improve as a player.

Is Haslem dead to you? And Lebron is the PF, not Battier.
And I don't really agree about priority, either. Like I said, New Orleans prioritizes Davis way over Oden.
And Miami prioritizes Lebron, Wade, Bosh, and possibly more before Oden. At least Oden might be high on NO's list.

Yes, NO could easily win out for that last spot.
You don't seem to be looking at the other side of the coin here.

Source: Camby to sign with Rockets; Heat want Greg Oden
Chris Tomasson | FoxSports Florida
Sunday, July 28, 2013, 4:08pm
MIAMI — It's no surprise Marcus Camby won’t be coming to the Miami Heat.
A source had told FOX Sports Florida on Friday the Heat had backed off on the center. And sources said Sunday that Camby will sign a one-year contract with the Houston Rockets for the $1.4 million minimum.
A source had said a week ago that Camby's final three choices were the Heat, Rockets and Chicago Bulls. But while the Rockets and Bulls opted to bring Camby in for visits, the Heat ended up being not as keen about signing the center, who will be 40 next March.
The Heat remain committed to going after free-agent center Greg Oden, who is expected to make a decision soon. Miami coach Erik Spoelstra and vice president of player personnel Chet Kammerer observed Oden in a workout last week in his hometown of Indianapolis.
"If we get Greg Oden, I think we will win a third (straight) title," Heat scout Tim Hardaway said in an interview with FOX Sports Florida on Saturday...

Re: Greg Oden to Miami?
Nobody is going to give Oden more than 20 MPG, including New Orleans. He cannot play extended minutes. He couldn't play extended minutes 2 microfracture surgeries and a fractured patella ago. He's not a 25-30 mpg player and he may never be again -- but he certainly isn't this season. There's no "other side" to that coin. It's the fact of the matter. The guy hasn't played a game of basketball since 2009, it's absurd to think he wants more than the 15-20 minutes he could get in Miami. He knows full well he will be a limited minute player, which is why Miami is even in consideration.
And no, Haslem's not dead, but his minutes are clearly expendable at this point. He played 10 minutes per game in the Finals, and he'll be a year older coming off knee surgery. We also would always list Battier as the PF when he started, and he defends the opposing PF for the lion's share of his minutes, so we can go ahead and gloss over that annoying non-correction. If you'd rather plug LeBron's name in, go ahead. The minutes stay the same.
As for us prioritizing our stars, of course. But those guys are established vets in our system with well-defined roles. We're coming off 2 championships. They know their roles, they play them well, and we really aren't going to have to tinker with them in any meaningful way. Oden would be our only significant alteration. He's all we'd have to worry about. NO doesn't have a single piece set in stone. Davis is a work in progress, Gordon is coming off an injury, and Holiday and Evans are new additions. They have a lot of reconstruction going on, and Oden would be the least of their concerns.
It's not a matter of looking at one side of the coin, it's a matter of looking at the facts. There's a reason Oden has consistently had us at or near the top of his list, and it's because we are a very good fit for him. New Orleans is reportedly offering him $3 million and maybe multiple years. It would make a lot of sense for him to grab the most money he can. But that's the only reason to pick NO over us. At the same money, we're a much better situation.
