Retire 24 or 8

Post#1 » by dho4ever » Mon Jul 29, 2013 4:33 pm

Or Both.

Kobe is an interesting case, where he has been a franchise player (of the same franchise) wearing two different numbers.

Strong cases can be made for both being retired, but I don't think that's ever been done before.

Damn that's a good one. Ill go with 24 just because he was the clear cut number 1 in those back to back chips. But I have no idea.

24

If we were the Celtics we'd do both....we're not so he's only gonna have one oficially retired, although the other one we're probably never see worn again

Take the avg of the two and retire 16. But wait that's pau.

Seriously we should retire 24 makes the most sense. 24 was when he was well into beig the Laker leader and franchise player and face of the city.

The purpose of retiring numbers is to show respect for that player, and anyone else wearing the same jersey would be disrespectful.

With that being said, both 8 and 24 should be retired. Remember, Kobe scored 81 while wearing #8.

He's done enough wearing both 8 and 24 to have both retired. It'll be interesting to see how they handle that though as I don't think any other player has had 2 numbers retired for a franchise.

They can make one jersey with both numbers.
The real question is what number will his statue wear?

I propose a statue with two distinct sizes.
One half is the number 8 Kobe with the mini fro and the other is the number 24 with the bald head

He's played two careers worth of time. Retire both.
