Ye Olde Trade Deadline Thread
It's upon us. People are rumoured to be moving places over the next 48 hours, but the Jays are as yet not featuring in any of it. 'Holy ****!' rumours and completed deals go hurr.

**** your asterisk.

Melky and Boni on the block. Current reported bids for Boni of "uncontrollable laughter" and "vague gesturing in the direction of his stats".

Re: Ye Olde Trade Deadline Thread
Surprised Davis hasn't been mentionned in rumors, but this may be a case of "If I can't move the other two, I'll get back to you on Davis before the deadline"
Seriously, though, give Bonafacio until the waiver trade deadline and if there is no taker, just waive him.

It's too bad we don't hear our names mentioned for guys like Peavy and Lee.
Both would be signed for multiple years and would help us win during our time frame.

Re: Ye Olde Trade Deadline Thread
I'd be very surprised if any team takes Melky at $8M per, suspension or not.
As far as Bonifacio, I think "uncontrollable laughter" is putting it mildly. A guy who can't hit, can't field, and can't bunt (thereby negating his only strength, which is speed) is not a tradeable commodity.

Oliver for a PTBNL or cash makes more sense than having him rot in our pen at this point. I'd be surprised if we don't flip him to Texas for next to nothing.

To acquire Lee, we'd have to run out payroll into the $175m+ range...it's just not realistic.

If the Yankees fail in their attempts to acquire various players without increasing payroll, I could see a deal where Melky goes back to New York for virtually nothing while we pick up the remainder of his 2013 salary.

I agree it's not realistic - i am surprised they're spending what they're now, tbh.
Still we should be a top 5 team in payroll.

ESPN Stats & Info @ESPNStatsInfo 1m
LHP Marc Rzepczynski traded from Cards to Indians. He had 4.15 ERA in first 1+ seasons with STL but 7.84 ERA this year.

Is there any reason to trade Melky for nothing while also picking up all of his salary? I don't see how his value is that low at this point. It's not like there's anyone he's blocking.

Well, we'd be getting rid of a replacement level player scheduled to make 8 mil next year. Mind you, I'd even say it's unlikely that we'd be able to get rid of him without picking up a chunk of his next year's deal too.

Getting his 2014 salary off the books, mainly.
And his value should be that low. He's posting -0.7 fWAR while getting paid $8m a year...amusingly, his value equates to a situation where he should be paying us $3.7m for the privilege of playing. Pillar's probably a better option than that, and he's ready to go in AAA.

Although I'd imagine Melky's and Boni's names are nearly interchangeable in your last sentence.

Re: Ye Olde Trade Deadline Thread
We know Bonifacio has no value. If he's truly on the trade block, it becomes all the more inexcusable that he wasn't sent packing earlier in the season.
To say AA has been struggling with roster management the last two years is putting it mildly.

Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Anyone with value and being the subject of serious trade talks is probably skipping their game tonight. Bonifacio is actually playing.

Jackie Bradley was just pulled from his minor league game in the 6th inning. Could be nothing, could be Cliff Lee (or another pitcher).

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 4m
Whatever is going on with #RedSox - if anything - does not involve Cliff Lee.
Hopefully it stays that way.
