The All Purpose MLB Thread
Now that we can stop worrying about when the Blue Jays will break our hearts, we can start enjoying this whole idea of "good baseball teams" that apparently exists.

Re: The All Purpose MLB Thread
Anyone have some World Series predictions?? I know everyone loves the Tigers' pitching staff (top 4 of 15 SP in fWAR, their 5th starter is a pathetic 41st... Insane) + Cabrera, but Tampa is not only good but they're are also fueled by former Jays and if there's anything this season has taught us it's that if you currently play for the Jays you suck but if you used to play for/manage the Jays you're really good.
NL wise St. Louis is clearly the best team in baseball this year, but have a feeling the Reds will somehow squeak through if Cueto gets healthy.

Apparently Pujols might be done for the season. If they didn't get to watch Mike Trout every day, I would almost feel sorry for Angels fans.

Going to be tough to get past the Tigers with that pitching staff and it's too early to tell who will get through in the East/wildcard. In the NL, the Cards are the favourites so I'll say the Braves find a way to get enough healthy pitching to make a magical run.

Papeldouche is upset in Philly

Philadelphia Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon caused quite a stir before Sunday's 12-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers with some pretty candid comments.
"I definitely didn't come here for this," Papelbon told MLB.com after the team fell to 49-56, including going 1-8 on its current road trip.
In the interview with Todd Zolecki, the Phillies beat writer for MLB.com, Papelbon said that the organization could be in need of a cleaning.
"It's going to take, in my opinion, a lot," he said. "And in my opinion, I think it's going to have to be something very similar to what the Red Sox went through a couple years ago. From top to bottom."
When asked if he wanted to be a part of the changes in Philadelphia, Papelbon, who has blown five of his last 12 save opportunities, didn't hold back.
"No, I would like to stay here," he said. "But if I'm going to have to put up with this year after year, then no, I don't want to be here. Why would you? Why would anybody?"
This isn't the first time that Papelbon, who signed a four-year, $50 million contract prior to the 2012 season, has questioned the direction and leadership of the club. In spring training, he made a big deal about what he saw as a lack of leadership among the club during its 2012 season that ended 81-81. Earlier this season, he talked about poor fundamentals by his infielders after blowing his first save of the season.

Re: The All Purpose MLB Thread
The Cards seems like the team to beat in the NL if not the majors because of how complete they are. As for the AL i think it is more of a crapshoot; Right now the Rays are on fire but teams like the Bo sox and Oakland have been consistent all season. Even teams like Det/Tex/NYY and Bal have a shot in the AL depending on the pieces they add.

Cards and Bucs start a huge series tonight. The game's on SN West, East and Pacific. It would be pretty awesome to see the Pirates not only make the playoffs (which seems pretty likely barring a major collapse), but also challenge the Cards for the Central.

Astros got the Tigers #5 pre-season prospect, Danry Vasquez, for Varas. Only 19 and really raw, but with decent upside. Shows us what we can expect the trade market to look like for Janssen/Cecil/Delabar.

Frank Castillo, he of the one shocking good season as a Jay in 2000, died in a swimming accident.
There has been an unsettling procession of ex-Jay pitchers dying way too young.

Westbrook getting tagged. Pirates will be within a half-game if they can hold on.

Looks like Chris Davis cooled off in the month of July. Only 6 HR and 17 RBI with two days left in the month. Would be nice to see if EE can catch him in both departments.

Pretty slick throw with 2 outs left in the bottom of 14th by Michael Saunders. The game continues.

The Royals have won 9 in a row and haven't gained a game in the division.

Jose Fernandez with back to back 13+K games
This time 8 innings 14K's, one walk and three hits against a hot Indians lineup. What a monster, and he turned 21 only 3 days ago.
Lets hope Loria can come up with the money to pay him so he doesn't wind up a Yankee in 5 years.

That'll just mean he'll be a Yankee in 6 years.
