If you don't know what half cocked means, maybe you should look it up. Its a fairly main stream term. Surprised you never heard anyone use it before.

I got the cocked part, but the rest sounds excruciating.

Post as in a verb.

You post in a thread.

How did you manage to read it any other way ?

Me too. That was the firs thing I posted when it broke that WAS was interested. I'd make that trade and then try to move all Seraphin+Booker for a guard and 2nds.

Wouldn't that involve a sign and trade by SA? Under the current CBA, is SA permitted to do an S&T?

we can't...we're over the cap

Edit: not too sure

At least my posts are readable. Also, I'm not sure how that didn't makes sense to you  . OTOH, you just post essays patting yourself on the back and picking fights.

I don't pick fights. I only join them. And since you decided to start one, here I am. Danny.

Do we still have the trade exception for Crawford?

I think so. TPE's I believe are good for a full year from the data they are acquired, so we should have it available up until the next deadline (or close to it).

It's pretty small, though. Like $1.2M or so IIRC. If a team had a minimum salary player they had to give up to make another trade work, we could take him on. That's about it.

It could be used to acquire guys on contracts that are from being a late 1st round pick, or someone resigned from a vet minimum contract using non-bird rights. It looks like about 30 players fit that category. When you narrow it down to those who might be available and interesting to the Wizards, the list is even shorter.

The Dallas Mavericks are in serious talks on signing DeJuan Blair, according to ESPN.com

I would do the Crawford TPE for Fab Melo. It helps get Boston under the lux tax. Fab Melo needs to learn how to rebound, but he put up good block numbers in the d league, and could theoretically provide competent rim protection. He might have a good rapport with Nene (Brazil) etc.

I wonder if the Crawford exception could have been used to do a sign & trade for a guy like Blair. Appears to be a purely academic topic at this point.

TPEs can't be combined with other assets?

Well it looks like this team is done making any moves. Ernie seems satisfied with the team he's assembled.

Kind of disappointing after Wittman's pronouncement that they weren't done and would be making some trades and free agent additions. Guess it was just wishful thinking on his part.

I'm not too disappointed in that aspect of the offseason. Yes, it would be nice to trade some of Ernie's Kids for a quality big man, but my guess is that nobody else was interested. The only other option was trading Trevor Ariza for somebody, but I liked Ariza better than most of the names that were floated. Ariza is a damn solid player if you ask me, and he was real good when alongside Wall. If nothing else, I think his trade value at the Deadline will be higher than it is right now.

That left only vet minimum guys. We flirted with Blair and probably a few others, but they all decided to go somewhere else for more money and/or more minutes. There really weren't any decent big men available for the vet minimum or even for the BAE.

I still think the Wizards need a backup big or two, but I mainly agree with nate. Ariza is a better option for backup minutes at PF than anyone currently available.

I don't see any major moves upcoming but I don't think they're done. There's still two months left in the offseason. I think we'll see another Martell type signing or a minor trade to open up roster spots at some point. Remember, Webster signed at the end of August last year.
