Burke/Mayo/BK7 or BJ/KCP
Mayo and Jennings ended up getting identical contracts (3 yr/24 mil)
Using some hindsight would you have preferred our offseason had Joe D signed drafted Burke, signed Mayo, and kept BK7 as our 6th man?

As a poster, not a mod, I hope we can one day drop the Burke obsession. He is gone and is not becoming a Piston anytime soon. I never got the fascination with him regardless, but I'm fully focused on what KCP can do for me (nice jingle, right?). And that's hopefully quintessential 3 & D, which is exactly what we need.

Re: Burke/Mayo/BK7 or BJ/KCP
I honestly didnt post this because i am a Burke fanboy. I was perfectly happy with KCP on draft night and I think they were basically equal as prospects. I just thought it was interesting that the SG many people wanted to put next to Burke got the same exact deal we gave Jennings and a lot of people are hating on the BJen trade. If Burke is terrible people will move on. If he goes on to win ROY and makes multiple all star games people will be upset about it for a long, long time. That is just reality when you pass on the opportunity to draft the home town NPOY whether he is the right pick or not.

Burke is from Ohio. Just because he played in Michigan doesn't make him a hometown guy.

I'm trying to imagine how embarassed Burke will be and how appalled the Utah fans will be when they watch Burke try to guard Jennings. Burke's a slow footed guy compared to a quick jet like Jennings.
I don't think Burke has much of a future in the NBA. Jennings after 4 seasons has proven he's a good capable point guard and he has the potential to be an all-star. (Not hyperbole - he was a borderline all-star last season - and playing with a way more talented team now, he's got real possibilities to reach high levels in this league).

I've been saying this for months. The guy is from Columbus (played with Sullinger in HS) and wanted to go to Ohio State but went to Michigan as a way to get back at Matta for offering Craft a scholarship. Somewhere this has gotten lost in the shuffle and everyone's annointed him as the hometown kid who got away.
And getting Burke/Mayo/BK7 couldn't have been accomplished. We used up all our cap space on Smith/Billups/Datome/Bynum. We were only able to sign Jennings because it was a S&T where Knight/Krav/Middleton's salaries equaled enough to take back Jennings.

I was looking forward to seeing Knight/KCP with Chauncey/Mo's mentorship, but since you raise the question....I would rather have Jennings/KCP than Knight/Mayo/Burke.

Obviously they wouldn't have resigned Bynum had they drafted a PG which would have made up for the salary difference. Again I am not saying I would have gone the Burke route but I am surprised how quickly this board turned from a bunch of BK/Burke lovers who hated Jennings to people who think Jennings is nearly as good as John Wall. I guess he's "one of us" now so everyone is buying in.
And the whole Aaron Craft thing is just false. Craft is a year older than Burke and had nothing to do with his decision. Ohio State offered Shannon Scottwho was in the same class a scholarship because they thought he was better than Trey. Also, he didn't choose Michigan to "get back at Matta" he chose them because of the system they ran and the relationship he formed with Belien. But believe everything you read if you want. But all of that is off topic. He certainly became a "hometown" favorite type kid. It's the reason he is such a lightning rod on this board

I am amused at myself in terms of how quickly I've developed arguments for why Jennings was a great pickup by Joe. I am on record here of saying NO WAY to Jennings in a Pistons uniform.

Re: Burke/Mayo/BK7 or BJ/KCP
this is silly. We got Jennings in a sign and trade and used the salaries of Knight and the others so Mayo at this point would be a no go. You should add it to be BJ/KCP/Smith or Mayo/Burk/BK7.

Not true.Joe D certainly could have worked out a way to sign both Mayo and Smith while keeping bk7.

Haha. I did the same thing with Josh Smith. At least we are honest with ourselves and admit it. I HATED the idea of signing Josh Smith especially if he was going to spend any time at the 3. Now for some reason I have caught myself arguing with my friends and explaining why it will work. Once a player is "ours" things change and we become biased. Look at the Knight for Jennings thread from a few weeks ago and compare it to the majority of the posts in the past 24 hrs. A complete flip-flop.

Re: Burke/Mayo/BK7 or BJ/KCP
I'll take KCP and Jennings. They simply have a higher ceiling than Burke, Knight and Mayo.
Jennings is better than any player in the conversation right now. He's been a fringe all-star for the last couple seasons, and his snubs have been due more so to the depth of the guard positions than his own game, much like Steph Curry's glaring omission out west.
KCP is the biggest guard in the conversation, is as fast, or faster than anyone not named Jennings, and his floor looks to be a smothering perimeter defender with 3-point range. The "T-Mac of the SEC" (not my nickname for KCP) has a very high ceiling. Burke has a lot of skill, but will ultimately be restricted by his many physical limitations.
Mayo is what he is at this point- an undersized shooting guard, who can be maddeningly inefficient, or go off for 25 on some nights. He's not particularly fast or athletic.
Knight, I think we all know about Knight. Great guy, good teammate, not much of a point guard (depending on which stats you adhere to, the worst PG in the league)

Re: Burke/Mayo/BK7 or BJ/KCP
I was never a BIG fan of knight and was on the burke bandwagon and still believe he will amount to be a better pg,so trust me when I say as soon as I heard the offical news of us getting BJ I was thrilled and knew he would be a much better pg for us than knight, that being said theirs this part of me that is alittle scared that knight turns it on this season, but then I think even if he does it will be in a BJ mold.

This is incorrect, if you want to go that rout and make the question make it properly.
Burke/Mayo/BK7/Middleton or BJ/KCP/Billups/Datome/Bynum, that's closer.

Not everyone was pro-Burke. I know I stood tall and declared he would be a bad pro, I still stand by that statement.
As for BK, we all knew he sucked. We just chose to look at his positives and upside, but he was never safe from criticism on this board, and many posters wanted him removed from the PG position entirely.
As for Jennings, I wasn't a fan of trading for him. But, a lot of that was under the assumption that a deal for him would result in him getting a 4-year 40+ million contract. His 3/24 deal is incredibly cap friendly for what he may be able to bring to the table, and what we know he will bring.
As for the whole John Wall comparison thread, well, Wall hasn't proved to be anything more than promising at this point either. You can't site half a season as clear proof against the two and half seasons of wild inconsistency and a myriad of injuries.
