Man i cant lie when he ruptured his achilles I thought it was the end. That whole week here in L.A. was a sad place. While it was different circumstances I can relate the emotion to Magic 1st retiring from the league. That press conference had everybody in tears. I'm just blessed to be able to see the 2 greatest Lakers ever play in my own 2 eyes. Magic and Kobe :)

I was absolutely crushed when Kobe tore his achilles. Mostly because of how it was going to affect Kobe more than anything else. Sure he'll go on and live a rich and glamorous lifestyle regardless of whether or not he ever plays another game of basketball but I know what the game means to him. It's his life and not being able to play to at the level he's used to being able to play will be devastating to the guy. He's given me so much enjoyment the past 17 years that's the last thing in the world I ever wanted to see happen.

I'd rather not think about it now. I'll keep watching him and enjoy every second while he's still playing.

You know, it was kind of weird. After that Portland game late in the season which I think is one of the best Kobe games of all time, I just sat there on my couch and just realized that this is not going to happen much longer. Ever since I was an early teenager, these performances came every night and you realize just how much you took it for granted and expected it. After that Portland game in a must win game on the road, I just sat there in disbelief -- at what he's doing at 34 years old, at how much his will refuses to let this team quit/lose, and the realization that there might not be many of these left.

How can you guys be so attached to a basketball player? For me sure I'll miss the dudes play but I won't be sad over his retirement. Greats come and go, life is all about moving forward.

This....

5 yrs ago it would have been different, probably I woulda given up on basketball (following it all the way at least) and would have been sad to death

Not really the case now,I've evolved from a Kobe fan to a Lakers fan all the way....I still get anxious and nervous when we play even without Kobe, maybe even more ....I'll still miss him, don't get me wrong and he'll probably be
my favorite player ever but like KB24 said, greats come and go,but the Lakers are always here

Because the Lakers are the pride and joy of my hometown. I've been a Laker fan since 1985 back when they were still playing at the Great Western Forum. I've watched them all come and go from my connection to Magic and Big Game James Worthy to the down years of Sedale Threatt and Terry Teagle, to the fun years of Nick Van Exel and Cedric Ceballos, to the Kobe and Shaq era. Being a Laker fan and a Kobe/Magic fan are the same exact thing. Both have been and carried the Lakers brand as the face of the franchise for so long. Same can be argued for Jerry West and even Elgin Baylor. When we win championships its the one time that everybody can come together (besides the idiots) regardless of race, color, hardships going on in people lives and just celebrate the accomplishments that our team just provided for my community. Hey some people arent deeply into sports like that. Not here tho and D33P could tell you that. The Lakers are the face of Los Angeles and Inglewood. Even the few Kobe haters (because they cant get over the Kobe and Shaq breakup) respect the guy and will miss him when he goes.

THIS!

Growing up in Jax, FL were there were no FL teams and seeing them getting dragged in the Finals against 76's, the Lakers have been my only source of entertainment and peace. I am an artist. I produced and performed the Quad City DJ's song "Space Jam" and met Jordan (well we were introduced to him at the Space Jam release and he looked, waved his hand and nodded and walked away...but I'm still going to say I met him! LOL), in 1997, and being personally given tickets by Otis Smith, the then GM of the Magic to go see Jordan in the the playoffs against the Magic when Jordan returned, neither one of these come close to me attending a regular season game where I watched Kobe play against the Magic. When Kobe plays his last game, I will be happy to have seen him play. But REALLY sad to see him leave.
