I can just imagine Oden in a Heat jersey next year. No other jerseys.

Not ture.

Pretty sure We had no problem giving him MLE money if it's just for this year. But our front office understand that we need to save evey $ under the cap available for next summer when we'll need to re-sgin the big 3 AND re-tool around them. Problem is, Oden proably wanted guaranteed money for next season too. We'll see soon enough who blinked first.

You need to weight salaries. There's no reason to short change a guy that we're not just investing in as a project, but as our center of the future.

I think what's being lost in this discussion is the long term expectations, and that is value far above the mmle, much less the vet min. I'm certain Pat, Micky and Andy have considered that. The market is reflecting that. 2yrs of the mmle is a steal if after this year it looks like he's part of the roster for LeBron's next contract. That amount isn't what will put us in the luxury. We'd be better dumping less valuable players to make it work. All imo.

I feel you Mike Conley Sr is great but I understand why he has so much interest. He was once called a once in a Decade Big man, supposed to be as dominate as Shaq. Age is another thing, Cole is a young player Oden is only a few months older. The potential of him being healthy makes teams drool. Him playing up to 50% of his potential is a success but who knows if he will be able too play. Wherever he goes ill be rooting for him(unless he goes to a rival 8-) ) if he turns all the adversary around that would make a great sports story. Hopefully he does it with the Heat.

The drawn out game was to get us to blink or match an actual mle, and one of those must have happened. But, if this happens, I would guess almost immediately afterwards we will see Joel traded to Philly for their returned conditional first rounder plus $3M cash, keeping us tax neutral more or less. Then we wrap up the off season with Mo if he takes the vet min.

Good call. Nice to see you poopin' in.

Oden at the MLE costs us 9 million this year. That is why they would be hesitant to drop it on him.

I have little to no faith on this guy being able to play for a full season. Even with limited time.

An additional 9 million dollars expense for a true contending team with hopes for the historically and ever mighty three-peat feat?

Should be a no brainer.

Success has a price, plus is not like they haven't cut into some costs (Mike Miller) to possibly invest in the one needed and critical position such as Center, again it should be a no brainer.

Think about it, big teams got better, we haven't made any plus moves, only lateral or subtractive ones, your best player, a once in a lifetime talent and best player in the World, could be a FA after this season and he is in search of greatness (not a bad problem to have as a professional organization).

9 additional millions when you think about it in this case, should not be a reason for any hesitation.

Decision incoming at 11:59:99 PM tonight, I bet. lol.

Tbh I will be kind of disappointed if he doesn't sign with us. The deck just seems to be in our favor. Though I wouldn't blame him for going to SAS or NOLA if it was a matter of $$$.

Will Riley spend the MMLE on him?

On a second note, it makes all the sense in the World for Oden to sign with the Heat if everything is equal.

If he signs with Miami the spotlight will last much, much longer than signing with the Pelicans or any other team today. If he has the right agent the opportunity could translate to extra income in many other ways.

I expect an announcement in the early afternoon if not late morning, if he has decided in advance to choose today I dont think it prolongs into the evening.

Agents 101: They'll do their best to maximize the news cycle with their client's announcement. Not too early... not too late. They'll give word when it's just right.

9 mil for a guy who can fill one of Miami's few holes?

Dudes gotta stop penny pinching when u can potentially significantly increase your chances of winning a title.

A 3 peat puts Miami with some of the most memorable teams of all time. Win 4 in a row after that and you've done something not even Jordan did

There are mixed reports on this, but some say that he is NOT looking for the spotlight, and that he instead wants a low-key, low-pressure situation where he can come back when he's ready. I'm not saying the Heat would force him to come back early or jeopardize his rehab, but if I were Oden, I'd feel a heck of a lot more pressure and accountability trying to get back for a Finals favorite versus the Pelicans.
