Shooting Guard

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Fri Aug 2, 2013 5:31 pm

If we start the season today, Rodney Stuckey is our starting SG. KCP will get substantial minutes. Chauncey will probably get some time there as well.

We could just be patient and see if KCP develops, but wtf, maybe Trader Joe can pull something else off. What is the best possible scenario to upgrade SG? What could we get if we combined KCP and CV's expiring deal? What about just for Stuckey's expiring deal?

1. Afflalo - Seems like Afflalo still makes the most sense and if we could get him for Stuckey and scraps, that would be awesome.

2. Wilson Chandler - ugh. My list is already starting to stink. He's be better to have than Stuckey for sure, but I keep looking for a star SG that we could get and it just doesn't seem possible.

Anyone got any better ideas?

Projected WARP for SGs according to ESPN. Can we get one of these guys?

2. James Harden, Houston Rockets
Projected 2013-14 WARP: 11.7

3. Manu Ginobili, San Antonio Spurs
Projected 2013-14 WARP: 8.0

4. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers
Projected 2013-14 WARP: 7.0

5. Bradley Beal, Washington Wizards
Projected 2013-14 WARP: 6.1

6. Louis Williams, Atlanta Hawks
Projected 2013-14 WARP: 6.1

7. J.R. Smith, New York Knicks
Projected 2013-14 WARP: 5.4

8. Danny Green, San Antonio Spurs
Projected 2013-14 WARP: 5.2

9. Monta Ellis, Dallas Mavericks
Projected 2013-14 WARP: 4.8

10. Kevin Martin, Minnesota Timberwolves
Projected 2013-14 WARP: 4.7

Next five: Vince Carter, Wesley Matthews, Tyreke Evans, Marcus Thornton, Eric Gordon

Top 4 are off the list.

Beal, Williams, Green look interesting.

Eric Gordon is certainly available.

A tough nose player like Wilson Chandler wouldn't hurt this team....I'd trade a Stuckey and a second round pick for him and then have him split minutes at the SG and SF position

Is Evan Fournier available? I don't think he'll get much playing time in Denver since they signed Foye and Nate Robinson. They also have Andre Miller who will get playing at the 2 spot with Lawson.

I thought Chandler was more of a SF/PF rather than SF/SG. Thats what he was playing last year anyways.

I could see Afflalo being a viable option. He's slightly over paid, but nohing crazy and he doesn't need the ball in his hands to be useful.
I'd also be happy to throw KCP to the wolves and see how he holds up. That would allow us to hang onto our expiring deals and see how the season plays out.

Guys like Gordon are way too overpaid and could possibly hurt us in the long run. Dumars has already taken some big gambles this offseason, he should now make some solid moves to sure things up.

Is Vince Carter still available? I wouldn't mind having him here. He played pretty well last year.

I keep trying to figure out a trade that sends Stuckey out and gets the Pistons' Courtney Lee and maybe a draft pick. Numbers are too far off.

I think Jerebko for Lee or Stuckey for Matthews would be our best bets, if either one of those trades are possible.

We should stay put unless it is possible to get a guy who can put us over the top. We don't have a whole lot of money for the next 3 years, we shouldn't give up that cap space for a mediocre player.

If we're willing to use our expirings to land smaller pieces rather than going "big game hunting," we could deal the Celts Stuckey & Jerebko for Lee and Bass; we'd get two solid bench players, and they'd shed a good chunk of salary over the next few years.

Otherwise, looking to go bigger, things get pretty complicated pretty fast. The only way I could make something work was to pull concurrent deals —

TRADE #1: CV for Gerald Wallace
TRADE #2: Stuckey for Lee, Brooks, Randolph & Nets' first rounder

Even without the pick, I think I prefer the first trade scenario anyhow.

This kind of trade ruins any financial flexibility we have moving forward. Wallace makes 10 mil for the next 3 years. It's simply not worth taking on that kind of money for a player on a sharp decline who wouldn't even start. We get a few minor assets, but we're better off not taking on that kind of money.

I think Thorton and Gordon as the only two in your top five that is attainable but do we wont either would be the question. I think Stuckey will be the starter but I'm hoping KCP beats him out. I'm looking at the SL like this right now:

G Brandon Jennings/Chauncey Billups
G Rodney Stuckey/(Chauncey Billups and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope)
F Josh Smith/(Luigi Datome and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope)
F Greg Monroe/(Charlie Villanueva and Josh Smith)
C Andre Drummond/(Charlie Villanueva and Greg Monroe)

Singler started over Stuckey last season, I don't think he will be the starter.

We have a new coach though and Cheeks likes working with guards. I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks he can revive Stuckey's career. I personally want KCP starting though.

Good find BigLip...Out of this list I think we should acquire Wesley Mathews...He's not a sexy pick-up(no homo), but he could get the job done when it comes to spreading the floor...Plus he's on a good contract and he's the same age as Josh Smith...

I personally liked Singler last year, not necessarily a starter but he can shoot great and runs the floor well. Not sure why people seem to be sticking him at the end of the bench this year...

Courtney Lee is also a good target. I think he's attainable and he gives us solid D and he can really stroke the point shot.

Our 10 man rotation
Jennings/Billups
Lee/KCP/Singler
Smith/Datome/Singler
Monroe/Smith/CV
Drummond/Monroe

This would be a huge improvement from last year and is a MEM/IND styled team with more upside depending on Drummond's progress.

No thanks to Courtney Lee. I've never been a fan of his. I would much rather throw KCP into the fire or give the minutes to Stuckey.
