Melky: Now it's a meniscus tear?

Post#1 » by dagger » Fri Aug 2, 2013 7:53 pm

JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm 5m
Alex Anthopoulos #BlueJays GM told us today that Melky Cabrera has a meniscus tear in his left knee...hamstring/knee injuries all year XM 89

JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm 7s
Alex Anthopoulos clarifies "he wouldn't be surprised if Melky Cabrera had a torn meniscus rather than having one"

at this point, why not shut him down for the year, DFA Bonifacio, and give Gose, Pillar or Sierra a shot at some significant time in left field. Gose and Pillar can play all three outfield positions.

Who knows if it was torn before the break or not. Part of me likes that Melky was toughing it out and trying to play hurt but then the other part i don't like is the jays letting him play when he obviously wasn't capable of doing so.

Melky won't be back this year.

There has clearly been something wrong with him and no sign of improvement all year. He's useless in his hobbled state.

On the bright side, at least we can expect a bounceback season next year?

While I had my doubts about some of the Jays off-season acquisitions, Melky was one guy I thought would deliver. Hasn't happened.

Is Melky done as a Jay? I can't help but feel we'll look back at this team in 10 years and say "oh yea, he played for the Jays (i.e. JJ, Melky, Bonifacio).

What a disaster of a season. I thought it would be impossible for us to top last years disaster but here we are..

We don't know that he's off anything. As most of these Biogenesis guys have shown, it's not that difficult to pass these tests.

You don't go through what he went through last year...only to just resume steroids immediately after. It's not a thing that a human being would do.

And yeah, him being off the roids is very very likely what's largely responsible for all of the injury problems and his productivity meltdown.

I would speculate that A-Rod is also now off the roids, and perhaps that's why he's taking forever to recover from his injury. Braun has also been struggling with injury after the accusations against him surfaced and he most likely stopped as well.

Why not? Manny Ramirez did exactly that and we know that because he was actually caught for a 2nd time. And there are, of course, countless examples of athletes in other sports who have been caught multiple times using PEDs. It's not like the incentive to use has gone away at all.

And yeah, him being off the roids is very very likely what's largely responsible for all of the injury problems and his productivity meltdown.

Or he's just having a terrible season wrought with injuries completely unrelated to whatever PED he took or didn't take (or is taking right now). There's no way for us to know.

I would speculate that A-Rod is also now off the roids, and perhaps that's why he's taking forever to recover from his injury. Braun has also been struggling with injury after the accusations against him surfaced and he most likely stopped as well.

Both of these assumptions are based on nothing (other than the rather unfounded idea that former PED users are somehow more prone to injury), though. ARod and Braun could easily be taking PEDs still. Heck, it looks like ARod did it for four years after he was exposed in the spring of 2009.

Blue Jays left fielder Melky Cabrera is en route to Florida after an MRI on Friday afternoon revealed "some issues" with the meniscus in his left knee.

Cabrera will report to the club's Minor League complex in Dunedin, Fla. Once there, he will undergo further tests to determine the next course of action, according to a Blue Jays spokesman.

In the same article:

The Blue Jays continue to search for the reasons behind Josh Johnson's prolonged struggles on the mound, but one answer could be a nagging knee injury that won't seem to go away.

Toronto manager John Gibbons revealed earlier in the week that Johnson has been dealing with tendinitis in his left knee but wasn't in danger of missing any time.

^^^The way Johnson's been pitching, we'd be better off if he missed more time.

Kinda wish we'd just traded him before the deadline. Thus far, he's looking like 2012 Romero.

Johnson shouldn't have went to the Ricky Romero pitching school in the offseason

And why has Melky been playing at all these last few months? There was obviously something wrong with him, he could hardly run
