Boston won't let the Rondo to Det rumors die

Post#1 » by ImHeisenberg » Sun Aug 4, 2013 6:07 pm

http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2013/08/pist ... rondo.html

Boston Globe reporter is now stating that the Jennings deal may just be another step in getting the assets to trade for Rondo.

In a vacuum, sure, I would definitely trade Jennings and filler for Rondo. But, I don't think that was Dumar's "master plan" here. I think it's just a bored Boston reporter trying to exhume a dead rumor.

Ughh, I think id rather hold on to Jennings for now because hes cheap and he stretches the floor better.

Pros:

Talent
Defense
Assists
Athletecism

Cons: Floor Streching

If we can surround him with shooters though than sure.

I think I would rather have jennings then rondo, we need shooting and scoring and those are 2 things rondo does not do.

You're right, one isn't an upgrade of downgrade from the other, they have very different games.

Rondo brings everything but shooting, but he's three years older and the ACL injury is something that should give pause.

The thing is, Jennings can't be traded until at least December, I believe. I really don't give much credit to the rumor, considering the source. Just thought it was funny that Boston won't let it die.

I don't see any reason they'd deal Rondo for a package revolving around Jennings.

This whole thing strikes me as silly.

I do feel that Jennings will be a better fit on this team than Rondo would.

Can't believe I'm actually saying this...but Jennings is a better fit. Jennings when motivated can be a gifted passer, and he can stretch the floor. With Rondo/Smith/Monroe/Drummond we become too easy to defend....we would see more zone than any team in the league. We probably already well, but I think Monroe will develop a semi-reliable mid range jumper, and that along with Jennings 3pointer and Smith's ability to put the ball on the floor and beat you off the bounce will keep defenses honest.

I'll take the bait and dream up the back room dealing. Celtics actually want Jennings but want to tank the first half of the season with Rondo still rehabbing. Once Rondo comes back and proves himself, then they can make the deal Rondo for Jennings+(Stuckey or CV). Boston has still tanked and got their long term PG, we get a (debatable) better PG. Deal has to wait until December so that Jennings is tradeable.

But most likely, it is a bored Boston reporter making **** up.

Unless Jennings completely bombs, which I doubt he will, I'd rather have him than Rondo on our team. As everyone has said, we need Jennings' shooting ability, and Rondo just can't shoot as well. I fully expect Jennings to flourish on our team this year. I hope that even if this rumor IS true that we'd wait a full year before trading for Rondo.

The boston board is definitely making **** up. They're acting as if a trade is imminent, and Drummond will be a Celtic soon.

I think a Rondo trade involving Drummond might actually be enough to drive me away from this team.

Good thing its not happening.

Their team is going to be horrible. As long as they don't come in here posting about it, let them dream about Drummond. We all know he'll never be a Celtic =P

I know it will. It would be the most amazingly lopsided trade I've ever seen outside of Pau Gasol to the Lakers.

In their defense, Celtic beat writers still need to fill their column inches and get their page hits, so what else do they have to write about right now? "How Badly The Celtics Will Suck Next Year, Part 42: The Inexperienced Waterboys" ...

I posted something along these lines on the T&T board back before we got Jennings, but I actually think the list of potential suitors for Rondo is pretty short (made much more so if you cross us off). Seeing as so many teams are rebuilding / tanking and most of those already contending are set at PG, who's realistically going to deal for him? I'd think it would be a mid-range playoff team who feels Rondo would put them over the top into true contention ... so who does that leave? The Knicks? The Rockets? The Grizzlies (if they feel Rondo is a major upgrade from Conley)? A fringe playoff team who might push for contention, like the Bucks, Jazz, Raptors or Mavericks? Can any of those teams really put together the type of package of young assets, draft picks, and salary relief that Boston will demand for Rondo? There's a reason these rumors won't die — we could have clearly made the best offer based around Monroe and expiring contracts, and the Celts are gonna have to scramble if that's now off the table. I'm thinking the best deal they might get would be if the Jazz decide to push and offer Trey Burke plus everything that got from Golden St. (the expirings and late draft picks) for Rondo and as much salary filler as Boston can send.

I for one would do Jennings for Rondo. As long as Monroe, Drum, KCP or Smith are not involved. Anyone else for Rondo. Dude is a legit pass first PG that can play defense and has size. But, Jennings does fit the youth here better.

I'd be okay with Jennings + KCP + expirings deal. Anything more than that is a no go for me, especially if Moose or Drummond are involved.

I'm a fan of Jennings, but I would trade Jennings to the Celtics for Rondo in a second...After we gain chemistry, Rondo/?????/Smith/Monroe/Drummond equals contender...
