That's an outstanding list, CCJ. And this is the way to think about building a team. I wish you would start a "Diamonds in the Rough" thread -- I'd do it but it's your idea so....

I loved Smith from the moment I saw his workout videos before the 2012 draft. He's enormous, moves his feet well, has huge, soft hands and to my mind was an absolute lock to be a good NBA player.

Of course, if Darryl Morey were running the team, we would have him w/o needing to make a trade. Because DM is running the Rockets we won't be able to trade for him. I don't think we have a chance at Brandan Wright either; didn't he just re-sign w/ the Mavs? No particular reason to think Moultrie is available -- I think the Sixers love him.

Best bet might be Ed Davis. But... Memphis seems to know what it's doing, so whoever would they find on our team to make the trade worthwhile?

I would want Lee... I wonder what it would take to get him. I also don't think GS has a problem this year or next. So, I don't think they do anything this year... but that is just speculation.

Ah, the internet. Good source.

If it's about money, they wouldn't trade Thompson. He's getting paid relative chump change for the next 2 seasons. If he improves a lot to become half the player Harden was, then GS might look to trade him next offseason because of money issues.

But with the oncoming mega draft and klay value, gsw might want to get another younger piece to compete with instead of havin to shop him nxt yr with all the madness thats going to be going on (2013 draft, 2003 draft f/a) they can trade klay to the magic or sum for a 1st rd...and hav a chance to add a top 10 pick to there roster

I haven't watched enough of the Wolves to know if this is a good trade or not but ..... Pekovic wants 15 Mill a year and if the Wolves balk, what about a sign and trade for Okafor?

The Magic stole Tobias Harris from the Bucks. Milwaukee apparently didn't realize how good Harris could be. One way to improve the Wizards bench is to nab a potentially good or an underrated player from another team.

Ed Davis, Brandan Wright, Arnett Moutrie. and Greg Smith are diamonds that I like.

I would love for the Wizards to trade for any of those four players. Moutrie doesn't shoot threes, but he seems like a scoring big that the Wizards could use.

Like Ed Davis, from the link above, Kosta Koufos will come off the bench for the Grizzlies. I think he and J. J. Hickson are underrated. So is Amir Johnson.

Always nice to do that as well. More pieces like that would be great. Time to fish or but bait with Ves, Kevin, Booker and Singleton after this year.

Nikola V to ORL from the Sixers :banghead:
You don't always have to draft good players. You can steal them.

Getting talent with upside is good. Younger than Dirk would mean you can add and build with a longer window without reloading as much. But I see a big gap between talent and proven deep playoff talent.

That last inch is a mile.

Thats why adding player like Dirk, even though older, is so valuable. Players like PP as well.

If you are going to spend big money to acquire and important piece, I want to know they can be leaned on deep in the playoffs with all the marbles on the line.

People might say get a Cousins or a Monroe or Drummonds. Real interesting talents. But are they proven in the deep playoffs ? Of the three, I get the feeling Monroe might be the one I feel most comfortable trusting to get it done deep in a playoff game.

Thats what we need to learn about Wall and Beal this year. I think both will pass the test so I'm not to worried. Specially since they will be hear long term. Can't wait till they know first hand what its like. We need that experience in the heads of our two young studs.

Hold on. First OKC can't keep their talent and now GSW ?
And LAL spent over a 100M last year for a failed 1 year of Howard who they got nothing for.
And Dallas used all that cap space for Monte Ellis and Sam D ?

umm Seth Curry is already signed to a long-term contract...Bogut expires this season, so there's no reason to trade Klay

I am pretty sure we have covered this but... Omer Asik

It seems like he is going to get moved eventually. The Rockets need help at PF. I guess we don't have the pieces unless it was a 3 team trade.

Yeah, and if a third team was willing to take a package from us and give up a PF good enough to warrant HOU parting with Asik (like Ilyasova, for instance), we might as well just keep that PF for ourselves IMO.

I wouldn't give Pekovic $15 mil a year. He's good, but that's $3-4 million per year too much for a guy that's an average defensive center at best.

Plus he's very injury prone. It would be near suicidal to tie the cap space in him and Nene.

Perkins is not a good player; Perry Jones is not a good player (maybe some day...?); OKC would deliver a very low round 1 pick obviously. And the trade fails in the trade machine.

Other than that it's great, deneem -- right up to your usual standard.

Note that if I add a player from OKC w/ just enough salary to make it work (say Daniel Orton), the analytic conclusion is that the trade costs us 4 wins a year and gains OKC 4 wins a year.

You have any other good ideas before I put you on ignore?

Nene sucks now....perry jones is exactly what we want porter to be, and obviously we can ask for the highest 1st rd they have...

3more years of nene....3 more yrs of a +30 multiple injury ridden big man who been decling, contemplating retirement and get paid 13mil....
But then again we are the wizards
