Megatron or Fitzgerald

Post#1 » by NaturalBuns » Mon Aug 5, 2013 9:40 am

Which one will have the better career when its all said and done.

Larry Fitzgerald

Yards: 10,413
TDs: 77
Experience: 10 years

Fitzgerald set a single postseason record with 546 receiving yards, 30 receptions, and 7 touchdown receptions, surpassing Jerry Rice's records of the 1988–89 NFL playoffs.

Megatron

Yards: 7,836
TDs: 54
Experience: 7 years

Megatron broke Jerry Rice's single-season receiving yards record 1,964 yards.

I think its easy to maybe swing towards Megatron right now because of the year hes coming off and the fact that he is three years less experience but I'm gonna have to go with Fitzgerald. My big reason for that is because Fitzgerald has had so many QBs and still maintains a Elite status.

A's over Royals. Lester and experience will prove that he's worth the trade.

Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.

This is a actually a tougher question than I thought it was when I first saw the thread. My first inclination was to say, "Megatron, and it's not even close," but then I really started to think about it.

Fitz is about to turn 30 at the end of the month, meaning that he (realistically) has 4-5 very good seasons left before he becomes the veteran platoon guy. Yet, he's a lot like Cris Carter was (who started every single game for the Vikings from 30 til he left when he was 36), but he had guys like Randall Cunningham and Daunte Culpepper throwing to him. Fitz has had guys like John Skelton, Derek Anderson and Kevin Kolb, and it finally caught up to him last season when he didn't produce.

Megatron turns 28 in September, so he's got two years to catch up, but he hasn't been as durable as Fitz. But, he's also had to deal with some terrible QBs in the past, like Jon Kitna, Drew Stanton, Daunte Culpepper's rotting corpse, and Shaun Hill. He, theoretically, probably has the best chance to eclipse 2000 yards in a season IF he stays 100% healthy for an entire year and IF Matthew Stafford plays to his abilities.

It's more of a tossup than I originally thought, but if I had to choose one of them right now to be close to Jerry Rice in the record books when they hang it up, it would probably be Megatron. He has two years on Fitz, and seemingly has a better situation currently (because who knows which Carson Palmer will show up in Arizona). Both guys could very well end up with 17-20,000 receiving yards and 1,100-1,200 receptions when they're done. But, I think Megatron is more likely to do it based on what he's already achieved.

Megatron because he's got the better QB.

Poor Fitzy has never had a QB save for the few Kurt Warner years.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

Well I think Megatron has had the advantage of being on a team that throws the ball more than anyone else in the league and being the only competent receiver (Titus Young? ) on that team. But he is the better receiver currently with a better QB.

I really do feel bad for Fitz being on such a bad team and I'm quite honestly shocked he hasn't been traded or at least asked for one.

I think just about any fan would to get Fitz on their team. Brandon Marshall and Larry Fitzgerald lining up for the Bears? Yes please. :droop:

But Fitz has the reputation of being that upstanding guy and because of that I doubt he compromises it all to get a trade. Maybe later in his career to a contender or something.

Megatron is a more gifted physical specimen, but I'll say this in favor of Fitzgerald: I have never, ever seen him not go 100% after a pass even if there's no chance to catch it. Cannot say that for Calvin Johnson. Fitz also gets the edge as a blocker, though that might be changing soon.

Even with the same QB, Megatron would be better due to his superior athleticism. He simply gets a lot more separation than Fitz does from defenses and DBs. Fitz has better hands though, one of the best ever, but he doesn't get enough separation because he isn't as quick or fast as Johnson is.
