To anyone who may know about Euro league drug testing.

So seeing recent reports of Biogenesis and the possible use of PEDs by NBA players I wondered what the policies are for other world leagues. Do they do blood test for Hgh or other PED's or is it just a urine sample like the NBA?

The other topic I wanted to discuss which is sort of a spin off from the above is whether or not injuries have increased due to increase use of PED's. I honestly haven't looked anything up but I figured that increase PED use could lead to more injuries which goes into my third question. In the NBA lock out seasons do NBA players get tested for PED's?

I always thought it was curious that the season that followed lockouts more players got injuried during the season. Now obviously it maybe impossible to correlate the two and certainly the increase in games/time frame is the most likely explanation but what if its not the only explanation.

A lot times pedis actually aid in injury prevention/recovery. Are pedis in the nba, I am sure on some level they are, but that is not the reason for increased injuries following a lockout season. That answer is simply that players are unprepared to play major minutes that frequently.

I'm not too concerned with PED's in the NBA as opposed to other sports. Ultimately, I don't think steroids would help as much as possibly HGH would. HGH would aid in recoveries.

Ultimately, I think a lot of the injuries in the post lock-out year had more to do with guys not keeping in shape during the lock-out and then trying to go full speed rather than PED's.

Steriods add in recovery as well but to me the issue is more complex than just the lock out era injuries. I think NBA players would greatly benefit from steriod use since the demand on their bodies in a 82 game regular season would defiantly lead to muscle loss and fatigue. PED's would defiantly improve endurance (EPO) and prevent muscle atrophy during the NBA grind which would lead to better performance.

The problem is at what cost. The guys bodies break down faster the harder you push them so I would like to see if there is a compariosn between leagues around the world. Do they test the same and do they have the same rate of injuries and recovery times.

Yeah, EPO and blood doping wouldn't necessarily hurt. Though, there's enough breaks in action that I'm not sure EPO would help in basketball as much as it would in true endurance events, like cycling. However, it's not a steroid. Steroids also tend to add bulk and strength where basketball players wouldn't really want. Basketball is more of a flexibility and quick redirection kind of sport, more so than baseball, where steroids would be great. Steroids don't tend to help tendons and the like, so you get a rise in the instances of muscles torn from bones, like in baseball during the 80's and 90's.
