Voting Closed EArl Advances 5-4

Post#1 » by EArl » Wed Aug 7, 2013 1:28 am

Please rank these teams 1 and 2 based on who has the best combination of team chemistry, offense, defense, intangibles, and the gm's word. Everyone and anyone is welcomed to vote, you need not have a team in this contest to vote. Feel free to provide a 1-2 sentence explanation of your rankings if you wish.
Remember every player is in their prime.
Here are the rosters for your consideration:

EArl:
Spoiler:
C: Wilt Chamberlain- Self explanatory
F: Connie Hawkins- One of the greatest forwards to play the game
F: Cedric ceballos- Athleticism
G: Eddie Jones- Mini Kobe
G: Brian Shaw
6th Man: Derek Fisher

Coach: Frank Vogel
GM's word: The second I got Wilt, I knew my offense would be run through the half court. The ball will be force fed into Wilt as the first option and then Mr. Hawkins as the second option. Brian Shaw and Derek Fishers job is to basically bring the ball up the court pass it up to my bigs and shoot the open three whenever the clog the lane. Eddie Jones and Cedric can shoot the three as well and also run the floor when needed. Derek Fisher as my sixth man was needed so he can replace Shaw during the last minutes of the game hitting clutch shots and just overall using his hustle/intangibles on the offensive as well as the defensive end of the floor.
Defense:
Frank Vogel will preach defense and having Wilt anchor the defense is anyones dream (No one is coming into EArl's paint with the big dipper waiting for you). Every player I have is a capable defender and with Vogels help will learn to play great team defense.

VS

Dockingshed:
Spoiler:
pg: Archie Clark

"Clark was one of the first effective practitioners of the crossover dribble, which inspired his nickname "Shake and Bake." In his prime he was a legitimate offensive threat putting up 25 ppg on 47% shooting along with 8apg.

sg: Doug Christie

"developed into one of the league's best defenders, perennially named to the NBA All-Defensive Team; also he was recognized as one of the best 3pt-shooters during this time."

sf: Michael Cooper

"Larry Bird has said that Cooper was the best defender he faced."

pf: Bob McAdoo

"McAdoo's style was very modern for his time. Although a 'big man' at 6 ft 9 in, he had no problems taking shots from the perimeter, which, in his prime, made him a nearly unstoppable force on offense."

c: Dwight Howard

"On April 18, 2011, Howard won the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year Award, becoming the first player in league history to have won the award in three consecutive seasons."

6th man: Anthony Peeler

"During the 03–04 season, he led the league in three-point field goal percentage, 48.2. During that season's playoffs, Peeler threw an elbow at former Wolves teammate Kevin Garnett, followed by a left hook;"

Coach: Gregg Popovich

No commentary needed

GM's Word:

Offense: My team's attack will focus on McAdoo's all-time level scoring (3 straight scoring titles) that is able to go to the perimeter surrounded by a great finisher at the rim in Howard and very capable shooters in Cooper, Christie, and Peeler. Archie Clark's elite scoring and playmaking will serve as a secondary attack along with Howard's offensive rebounding.

Rebounding: McAdoo was the last player to average 30/15 and was always in the league's top 10, Howard is one of the greatest rebounders of all time, rebounding will not be an issue at all.

Defense: I believe this is where my team will absolutely shine. Guarding the paint is one of the greatest paint protectors of all time in Dwight Howard along with McAdoo who was in the league's top 5 in blocks several yrs. Michael Cooper and Doug Christie are going to absolutely wreck perimeter scorers.

Earl... Wilt would have destroyed Howard, and Ceballos, Hawkins, Jones and Shaw would just be too much for Clark, Christie, Cooper and McAdoo..

And I'm a huge Cooper and McAdoo fan.

But Eddie Jones and Ceballos in their prime were that good and Hawkins was amazing.

This is actually a really tough call. Obviously there is Wilt, who would destroy many centers, and I don't think much of Dwight because of his peanut brain, but Wilt is just too long for him.

I honestly think the rest of the roster, dock has EArl beat. Defenders everywhere and McAdoo is too much. Perfect coach for the roster as well.

Dockingsched for me.

Read your sig Ty and always remember.

edit. Doc may have a better backcourt, but it doesnt mean much since they arent the players that are running the offense.
Option 1 Wilt, Option 2 Connie.
If they collapse ball goes out and theres the open three.

Mcadoo is not a great defender, so he cant do anything on Connie. And howard on Wilt?

His offense is going to come from Mcadoo and Archie.

Hawkins can at least slow him down.

It's not just that Wilt was too long for Howard, he was too athletic and skilled. Howard would look like Pau trying to guard Shaq.
Eddie Jones and Ceballos were too athletic and quick for Cooper and McAdoo... And Christie would have to guard Hawkins, which he could do, but not to the point of locking him down.

I agree that from 1 to 4 it's close, but Wilt would own Dwight... And that would end up being the difference.

i'm just shocked that a respectable poster like yourself would actually say that "Ceballos, Hawkins, Jones and Shaw would just be too much for Clark, Christie, Cooper and McAdoo". i mean, ouch. cooper and christie would make eddie and ceballos cry mercy. archie clark is so much better than brian shaw. brian shaw sucked. mcadoo would absolutely without a doubt completely dominate hawkins, worse than wilt would do howard.

head to head in 11 games mcadoo averaged 32ppg vs hawkins 10 ppg. mcadoo was the 3 time scoring champ in the early 70's, there's no one that could "slow him down".

Another close one.

Edit: I change my mind, sorry Tycobb...you can take that And1 away! lol

Although I think Kilroy was overrating the players, Earl was convincing and Ceballos and Eddie add more to scoring to put them over the edge.

 It's all in good fun, but I was fortunate enough to watch most of McAdoo and Cooper's careers and they were great but McAdoo had zero lateral quickness and Cooper would have to guard Jones, and Coop just wasn't quick enough to guard Eddie. McAdoo would have to Guard Ceballos and he just too big and slow for that.

Archie Clark is better than Shaw, but Shaw was a smart/solid transition defender and the perfect PG for Wilt.

I don't think Archie would dominate Shaw as much as you think, I think Wilt over Howard is that much of a mismatch... I mean Wilt used to dominate Russell, and I think we all agree that Howard is no Bill Russell.
