Post Your Best Depth Chart for This Season

Post#1 » by Tiesto_Lakers » Wed Aug 7, 2013 5:28 pm

With the offseason slowly winding down, it's becoming more apparent that the Lakers are done making any major roster moves. Odom may still be a possibility, but he would have been signed already if we were interested, IMO. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Odom go unsigned through the entire season. I feel this is our best depth chart:

G - Nash (28 mins)/Farmar (20 mins)
G - Bryant (32 mins)/Blake (19 mins)/Meeks
F - Young (30 mins)/Johnson (15 mins)
F - Hill (28 mins)/Kelly (14 mins)/Harris or S. Williams
C - Gasol (33 mins)/Kaman (21 mins)

I think Young should start because he can score a ton of points when given minutes. He averaged 17 ppg in Washington when he averaged 32 MPG, and he'll get around 30 minutes this season with MWP gone. If he can give us 14 or 15 ppg, our offense will be fine.

Farmar and Blake should be the backup backcourt, and Meeks should be insurance. Blake showed he can play the 2-guard spot in D'Antoni's offense and we need to play Farmar because we need speed and youth. A 2nd unit of Farmar, Blake, and Johnon should be fast breaking at all times.

Nash/Farmar
Meeks/Blake
Gasol/Kaman/Sacre
Hill/Harris/Williams
Kobe/Young/Johnson

I think young should be the offense off the bench. He's not a catch and shoot player. If Wesley Johnson actually turns out to be a reliable player I would like to see him starting. However, otherwise I think Meeks still makes the most sense. He could easily lose that though if he doesn't perform when he should.

Young can still get 30 mpg off the bench, and he will get many more shots that way as well. I see either Meeks or Blake starting at the 2 and Kobe at the 3. Also Young and Farmar grew up playing together in the valley and might bring a nice run and gun chemistry off the bench together..

I know D'Antoni said he's gonna use a 11 man rotation but I think that's bullcrap and I won't believe it until I see it...he's notorious for his short rotations

And even if he does use 11 guys at the start I think that will change quickly....he's not Phil or Pop who will roll with certain lineups even if they underperform at times....as soon as we're losing some games and certain players are going through a slump we'll see the usual 9 man rotation(with 7 guys probably playing major mins and 2 other less mins but playing nontheless)

In an ideal world(sans foul trouble, injuries)I expect 9 guys to play most of the season in the rotation....if the bolded part happens, then more guys

PG)Nash 30 mpg/Farmar 18 mpg

I expect the two of them to share the mins at PG...I think MDA will use Blake as the backup SG

At the SG/SF positions I see 4 guys sharing the mins....only Kobe is assured of the starting position but I don't know where at this point
I expect different lineups so I'm not really sure of the mins distribution at each position...at one point during a game,a guy may play with each of the other 3

There are 96 mins available,I can see Kobe playing at each position

Kobe 36 mpg
Young 27 mpg
Blake 22 mpg
Johnson 16 mpg(with 5 mins or so a game playing PF when we go small)

In the frontcourt,we'll see 3 guys playing most of the mins if we don't sign Odom or another veteran, with probably a stretch of 5-8 mins a game in which we go small and play Johnson(it's D'Antoni,no need to bother)

Pau 35 mpg
Kaman 27 mpg
Hill 25 mpg

If we do sign another big that can play, Hill's and Kaman's mins will go down and Johnson will noy play PF

Meeks,Harris,Kelly are injury/foul trouble insurances at this point

Nash 28 farmer 20
Bryant 18 Blake 20
Johnson 16 Young 30 Bryant 12
Hill 18 ? 30
Gasol 28 kaman 20

Power forward rotation/mins is the only question, I just can't subscribe to the thought that Antoni will play pau with kaman. Personally I don't want odom back but would make the most sence for the vet min. We'll see

Even though I would like Hill to play 30+ min/game I just don't see it. I say keep his mins down or he'll eventually go down with some injury.

Terrible pick and roll defense with the starters.

I actually like this team's potential synergy. Offense can be really good, and if chemistry forms (which it should, with Dwight gone), the defense can potentially be not horrendous. If anything they will be fun to watch.

ugh Jordan Hill getting 30 minutes is concerning, and playing Blake at the 2 for that long makes me sad as well.

PG: Steve Nash (28)/ Jordan Farmar (20)/
SG: Kobe Bryant (20) / Steve Blake (20) / Young (8)/
SF: Nick Young (25) / Bryant (13)/ Johnson (10)/
PF: Jordan Hill (30) / Johnson (10) / Gasol (8)
C: Pau Gasol (25) / Kaman (23) /

Bryant: 33 minutes
Gasol: 33 minutes
Young: 33 minutes
Hill: 30 minutes
Nash: 28 minutes
Kaman: 23 minutes
Johnson: 20 minutes
Farmar: 20 minutes
Blake: 20 minutes

That's the rotation we'll eventually settle on, I think. Early on we might see a lot of Meeks, Ryan Kelly, etc. I also still hope we see another quality big added onto the team (Odom, James Johnson, etc).

Young will start at the SF position... He is 6'7" with long arms... He will play allot of minutes... I would go with the following:

PG: Nash - Farmar
SG: Kobe - Blake - Meeks
SF: Young - Johnson
PF: Hill - Harris - Kelly
C: Pau - Kaman - Sacre

I would still like to add LO or Johnson if possible... Looks like Rambis wants Pau & Kaman on the floor together at times... Hope Kobe comes back strong... A healthy Kobe, Nash & Pau can do damage...

yeah, when i was typing that hill at 30mpg was hard to swallow. ideally someone steps up for some pf minutes like kelly, but gotta wait and see where he's at. team really needs to sign a true pf rather than masking 3 centers as power forwards for the season.

Nash 30 /Farmar 18
Kobe 20 /Young 10 /Wes 8
Young 15 /Wes 10 /Kobe 10
Hill 20 /Pau 18
Pau 12 /Kaman 20

this team stacked & versatile. I can't even find time for Blake & Meeks.

i've discussed my opposition to people putting wesley over meeks before, but i'm open to that point going either way. what would shock me though would be wesley getting PT ahead of blake. its just hard to justify from what we've seen from johnson in his career. he hasn't been very good. blake had some rough yrs with LA, but he played really really well under MDA last yr and has been a proven solid role player every yr before coming to the lakers.

TylersLakers is right on excluding Wesley getting 12 minutes at PF & Hill dropping to 28 minutes... Well done... Crazy the way our team looks this season...
