Britton at RT?

Post#1 » by ThisGuyFawkes » Wed Aug 7, 2013 9:47 pm

Is there any chance Britton could land at the RT spot? That seems to be the position that most open for battle (assuming Long gets the start at RG). I like what Britton has done in the past, and he has some skills and experience.

What do you guys think?

I've been saying pretty much all off-season that I want Long, Brown or Britton starting at RT over Webb. I think Britton will take the job eventually. Hopefully sooner rather than later. It's a shame though, because Britton offers so much versatility on the line that he is a perfect backup. Either Brown or Long starting at RT would be more optimal.

And on Long getting the start at RG:

Bears Talk @BearsTalkCSN
Kyle Long working strictly with the 2's throughout practice. #BearsTalk

John Mullin @CSNMoonMullin
James Brown pretty ensconced at no. 1 RG for now. Kyle Long still a work in progress in pass pro. #Bears

Looks like he still has a long way to go.

All I know is that nobody is praising Webb's training camp performance so far. Strangely quiet about him. Mostly people point out when he gets beat by somebody. All I hear is that he has some analytics to back his last season up, and Trestman said he is hot and cold.

In no way do I worry about benching Webb thats for sure. For anybody.
Just an anecdote, there was a time when Webb played RT as a rook and imo the line settled down a little bit and played better at the end of that year. Maybe he can handle it better. It less of a spotlight for a lower motor player like him and he can function there. But consider this decision: If Webb has a good year, he would be in line for a big contract. Do you or don't you? :uhoh:

Even if he had a good year, I doubt there would be much of a market for him. There would probably be a very little chance that the Bears re-sign him if another club offered a fair-market contract.

Yea all I hear about Webb is that Wootton is using him like a toilet paper. There is no way Webb will get a big contract unless Bushrod goes down early, Webb goes to LT and gives up no sacks all season.

Webb did play well at RT and settled the line in his rookie year as fleet said. The problem he has is with small quick DEs. That's exactly the sack he gave up against the Pathers. This essentially means he is going to have trouble with any defense running a 3-4. So, while I'm a fan of his, I'm no longer seeing him making it if he can't solve this issue.
