I don't know how a word that is racist can be classed as a joke if you say it one way or another.

Plus all the public shaming and the likely on-field repercussions. Many people will never be able to let it go, though. Fans and teammates alike. Professional athletes can commit a number of crimes or morally questionable acts without the threat of being cut, you can say "f_g" or "r_tard," but a white guy using the n-word in a derogatory manner is the point of no return.

Cooper was never valued that highly by the Eagles or any other team for that matter. Being a 5th rounder after what he did in the SEC sort of spoke to how he was viewed.

You could probably say if Maclin hadn't got hurt Riley might have been on the chopping block. Now with this incident it might be they cut him loose. Obviously if it's Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers the reaction is going to be totally differant. The quick response would be he was drunk and did a stupid thing end of story.

I like how some guys have come to his defense like a Michael Vick and Mike Pouncey. Something tells me they know what kind of guy Cooper is and are willing to forgive and forget. Others are going to make a big deal about it and for that reson a rookie coach like Chip Kelley isn't going to have the stomach to deal with it. I expect Riley Cooper won't play again for the Eagles but hopefully he can get a second chance somewhere else.

Probably would have been better off just beating some guy up as opposed to talking about it in the manner he did.

I wonder if Riley Cooper made friends with all the black athletes in his re-education /sensitivity class that called white guys crackers?

Oh wait, you mean there's a double standard? Jesse? Al? Say it ain't so?

It's a disgusting word, ANY WAY it's used. But in the end, it's just a word. The NFL, and Eagles own roster is filled with guys that have done a lot worse.

Redskins? Browns? Both of those can be racist.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

He returned to the team yesterday.

Whatever opinion we may have on the subject of Riley Cooper, his teammates seem to have accepted him back. They handled it in-house as a family, which was the correct way to do it.

Like I said in the OP, maybe this incident will be constructive & help him view black people in a more positive light. If that indeed happens, it will be a good thing & a step in the right direction in regards to race relations in this Country.
