Just got back from Seattle Series

Was just wondering how the crowd looked and sounded like from a TV stand point.

In the stadium it was 80-90% jays fans depending on the game. All the bars after were 100% Jays fans, coming over from Alberta and BC.

Looked and sounded great. Only problem is it's been a whingefest from the media and fans about how terrible fans in Toronto are. During one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory, I find it ridiculous that fans in this city are being called out. Attendance numbers have been strong and reaction has been pretty positive despite the turd this team has laid. When the Jays were actually playing good ball the Dome was rocking. This is not European or South American soccer...it's not in our culture to stand and support no matter how poorly a team is playing. Three road games with an amped up travelling contingent should not reflect poorly on the fan base here but instead should just reflect more positively on the fan base overall.

Glad you enjoyed the series though, seemed like a great one.

Yeah. Beyond the media needing something to whine about, there really is no justification. They're rending their garments because the 31k/night who have attended this disastrous season haven't been dancing in the aisles for nine innings (the comically drunk excluded)? No ****! Did any of them happen to watch a game from Fenway last year when they tanked?

And it's hardly as if "fans who go to away games are louder" is a revelation to anyone who has the opportunity to watch sports where travelling supporters are common. If you make an hours-long round trip to watch a game, you're probably going to be a bit more noisy than if you dropped $40 on a whim an hour before the game.

Friends and I drove 9 hours to see the Raptors play in New Jersey back in 2008. The Raps had already clinched a playoff spot and the Nets were playing out the string. We get absurdly drunk and rambunctious in a 1/4 full Izod Center. We weren't jerks about it, we didn't use foul language, and we didn't harass anyone. We simply cheered louder than everyone else in that place (especially during VC free throws when you could only hear us in the building). If we were back in Toronto there's no way we would ever get that loud in such an inconsequential game. That doesn't make us better fans, we were just regular travelling fans. It's amazing how people are having this revelation like they've never heard of a European soccer crowd, or hell, even TFC.

I'm not so sure of that. Last weekend I was with the family in Chicago and took my son to a game at Wrigley field. It was a Sunday day game and the beer was flowing. I swear, the lineup at the kiosks never abated. That being said, the fans were quiet the entire game.

Sure the Platinum box seat corporate attendees at the ACC don't always make it out for the first 5 min of each period as they are too busy finishing off their sushi, but the crowd at any ACC playoff games is electric.

I went to a Cubs game in June and sat in the Budweiser bleacher seats. I've never seen a more apathetic crowd in my life. Sure, it's the Cubs, and they didn't score a run, but they kept it close at 2-0. You could hear a pin drop in there outside of our group from Toronto heckling Travis Snider.

i also have to disagree based on personal experience. i mean for the leafs, sure, that crowd sucks and we all know why. but for the raptors and jays, the crowd atmosphere is pretty much identical to any other mlb or nba venue i've attended. it's never boisterous like jays fans in seattle or leafs fans in ottawa or buffalo, it's just...normal.

I can't speak to your experiences, but having lived in the States for several years and been to many sporting events, I have to say that, for me, Toronto crowds are generally tamer than those in most other places. There are obviously exceptions there (like Raptors playoff games or big Blue Jays games like the Kawasaki/Orioles one during the winning streak which can get very loud), though.

I will say that I've been to several games in both Chicago parks and yeah, I didn't find the crowds much better there than Toronto's either. Of course, it might have had something to do with the fact that the Cubs and White Sox sucked during the seasons I went.

Yes Chicago has always had a quiet crowd as well. The best sports town is probably New York where everybody is knowledgable of the game and they cheer their a$$ off.

In terms of the Mariners games, keep in mind the people coming to Seattle from Alberta and BC only have NHL teams in their cities. There is no MLB so its a big deal for them to see a Blue Jays game.
