Offense  , Defense :-? , Cutler :-? , Bostic :D , Melton :droop:

Thats all I'm mentally capable of posting after watching a preseason game from 2-5am in Madrid.

I missed the game but from reading the game thread it looks like Michael Ford had some good plays. He was an excellent back and I thought he had a chance to take Allen's spot when we first signed him.

No mentions of Long by the commentators? Excellent sign. Webb played like garbage? Of course.\

Bostic with the athleticism. No mention of Frey. Didn't do anything special?

Almost had a interception that was returnable.

Yea. Frey had an easy pick 6 right there.

Just want to mention that Long had a miscue involving a blitz right up the middle. The commentators tried to blame James Brown, but after the replay (IMO) you could see that it was either Long or the Center's responsibility to pick up the blitzer.

The only thing that I would change is the Melton smilie. I viewed it more like.... . Hopefully, he doesn't sustain any more concussions this season. Sometimes players have one, then another, then another, etc...

Regarding Madrid, we want pictures of the women this time  .

I don't have a DVR so I can't see this until Sunday morning. I take it the Bears offense is a year away. I see Wilson had 4-82

This is a huge season for talent evaluation on this team. Frey looks quick to the ball and capable. That's huge if true.

Bostic AND Greene look good (not just from this game but at camp too). Bostic's speed was something to see. Not just on the pick six but on the sideline to sideline play where he outran the running back across the field and prevented him from turning it up. He MIGHT just be a player.

Its huge because if Frey, Bostic & Greene are seen as legit starters by the end of the season/going into 2014, this defense will move from the third oldest to one of the youngest when we plug in another DL and CB in the draft next year. I THINK we just might have a young defense coming along here:

Shea DE - 24
Wooten DE - 26
Melton DT - 26
Paea DT - 25
Collins DT - 25
Bostic LB - 22
Greene LB - 24
Frey CB - 23
Conte S - 24
Wright S - 25

Drafting a DE/DL in the first to push Shea & Wooten and a CB in the second to replace Peanut would mean the defense would be totally rebuilt by the start of next season. Then we can just let Peppers, Briggs, Peanut & Jennings play it out for a year or two.

On the O Line.

I won't mention Matador Webb.

But what I found most interesting is that Slauson was the #2 center. Allowing both Long & Brown to man the guard positions. I think that spells the end for Roberto Garza. He is a free agent at the end of 2013 and will be 35 by the time free agency rolls around. Slauson was on a 1 year deal and is younger (27) and bigger (6'5 315 vs 6'5 305), and better.

On the WRs

AJ looks like he's ready to take the next step. More excited for him than anyone on O.

Joe Anderson looks like he might push for real playing time. Can't find his 40 time anywhere, but all articles talk as if he has over the top speed. Definitely seems like he's in the top 4 which is bad for DA. If JA provides the speed, then that last spot might come down to Marquess Wilson and DA and Marquess Wilson came out the box strong with 4 receptions on 5 targets for 82 yards.

Overall, this group of WRs looks pretty strong. MW could be a total steal as he was predicted to be taken as high as the 2nd or 3rd round based on talent by Scounts Inc.

An overview from my POV:
- Cutler: bad on limited snaps
- O-Line: Matador Webb marred what would've been otherwise a decent outing from the line (considering last year)
- Bostic was looking very, very good. He showed his speed and tackling ability which was very impressive. Was easily the bright spot this game.
- Khaseem Greene looked good, but not as good as Bostic.
- Isaiah Frey (Sp?) had some opportunities to pick it off, messed them up. Didn't do anything else outstanding.
- Defene was okay, I guess. You could obviously tell it hurt to be missing Melton, Peppers, Tillman, and Hayden.

I just want Cutler to show me something. It's a contract year, after all...

I don't like the idea of drafting a DL high since we have so much invested there. I'd rather go CB and C because I don't view Slauson as a long term center.

But all this youth on defense is really exciting. If Greene develops well this yea we probably won't re-sin Anderson. We've gotta keep either Jennings or Tillman going into next year though.

I think after the first play, Cutler settled down. In very limited time I think he was average over all. The interception obviously burns in peoples minds, but he went on to finish 6-8 for 58 yards. Not great, but okay.

I liked what the two rookie lbs showed. Bostic obviously with the interception but also the speed from side to side.

And hopefully Greene can learn a lot from briggs this year.

The oline was still shaky overall. Didnt they give up like 5 sacks? And obviously Webb had some bad snaps. I imagine hes playing for a roster spot this preseason.

Over all the offense was below average and the defense overall was average. Nothing to worry about yet as it's only the first pre-season game of the year. A LOT of football left to be played.

In that mix at this point Earl Bennett should be watching out because hes been given more than enough chances and still hasnt shown anything mainly because hes either injured or ineffective .

At this point I would hope they keep the guys who look as though they are gonna produce. They got Hester out of the mix next up should be Bennett if he doesnt give us something.

Beast
Jeffery
Bennett

Weems
Wilson
DA
Anderson

tough call

I hope they all play well and put pressure on Bennett

earl has cutler's trust. that alone will make him a valuable guy on the roster. and he is a solid wr.

Howard says he is checking on the sticky/thread moving shadow topic situation. No timeline on an answer. I assume emperorjones has the call in the meantime.

Hey fleet, I posted this before but I don't think it was seen. What do you think about posting a pregame thread on the Bears board leading up to the game, the posting the actual game thread on the Bulls board during the game as a sticky and then moving it over to the Bears board after the game and not having a post game thread?

it could work temporarily. Ideally we want this to boost traffic on the Bears board obviously. But I'm not sure if we shouldn't have the pregame thread stickied on the Bulls board as well if we went that route. Your call.

Otherwise, the only other option is to start all threads on the Bears board and move them to the Bulls board and hope they don't drop too far down the Bears board. I sure hope Howard can work this out.

So anyway, I'll follow your lead whatever you decide.

Yep watchin it. Just saw the Bostic pick. I don't know what to make of what I've seen so far. The Bears are doing Ok except for the isolated mistakes and also failed to convert a third down pass. Jay rolling out though. Interesting.

I hope Zach Bowman can cover better than that. Then again he never could.

And for some reason I never feel like the Bears get enough pressure on the QB. Eh cover 2...
