It seems like it's down to us, Utah and Chicago in the Anthony Tolliver sweepstakes.

BrotherDave wrote:Tolliver sucks but he is a easy guy to root for because he plays solid defense and hustles his tail off. He's like a poor man's Junkyard Dog.

Tolliver does hustle his tail off, but from what I've seen by no means is he a good defender. He's kind of chubby and doesn't move around that well to be solid on pick-n-rolls or when guarding fours, most of whom are faster than him. I've rooted for him ever since he became one of the random D-League guys who could score over 20 for Nellie though.

The list of free agent power forwards and centers with size (guys who aren't undersized, in my opinion):

Harrellson, Pittman, Jason Collins, Gana Diop, Petro, Wilcox, Przybilla, Haddadi, Barron, Cole Aldrich, Trey THompkins, Solomon Jones, Amundson, Drew Gooden, D.J. White, Malcolm Thomas, Henry Sims, Kurt Thomas, Jared Jeffries, Juwan Howard, Shavlik Randolph, Al Harrington.

Not the best of lists, to be honest. I would rather go with Tolliver.

I'm more than OK with Tolliver being a towel waver on our bench, but of your list, I would probably prefer Malcolm Thomas to Tolliver based on talent. However, Tolliver would probably be more amenable to the role/minutes I see this signing not having and can stretch the floor a bit.

I didn't have a clue who the hell is Malcolm Thomas when listing him, to be honest. His measurements looked okay for a power forward, but upon further research he does seem to be a tweener, even for the power forward position. So he doesn't belong on the original list.

I like that we are debating and complaining about end of bench guys now.

Give me Cole Aldrich & Malcom Thomas over Tolliver, at least they have a little youth and unkown to them. Tolliver is a known factor, he can shoot and not do much else, he isn't really going to make us any better or get any better.

But at the end of the day, we are talking about or 14th and 15th man so it doesn't really matter too much

I don't think Cho is interested in Cole Aldrich or Malcolm Thomas unless they cut Jeff Adrien, and I don't think it's worth it. The Bobcats intrigue in Antony Tolliver is the fact that he can shoot well enough to play a bit of small forward. Charlotte is looking for a SF/PF hybrid to fill out the roster in case MKG or Jeff Taylor happen to get nicked up. That's the same reason why they looked into Antawn Jamison and there's a possibility that Patrick Ewing Jr. could make the cut. I'm not too fond of a Tolliver acquisition, but he wouldn't be bad to have at the end of the bench

I'd rather bring Derrick Brown back than any of these names we're throwing around for our frontcourt.

We're talking about end of bench guys. Unless someone with a great bit of upside suddenly becomes available, i'm ok with cheap vets with a good amount of experience.

Pains me to say this though, I think Charlotte should bring Al Harrington in for a workout.

Athletic PF who is a bit of a rebounding machine. He averaged 11 points, 15 boards, and 1.7 blocks in summer league, but the bulls didn't have the salary space to keep him. I've been a fan of his since last year. Think he has potential.

I don't see us bringing Jeff back, not if we sign another big. I am pretty sure his contract is unguaranteed. I would rather us sign Thomas or Aldrich, waive Adrian and sign Seth Curry.

If we sign Tolliver I think Adrien is all but gone. I like Jeff but he's extremely expendable anyway.

Jeff Adrien was garbage anyway. He didn't provide any minutes worth giving, so I'm ok with signing Tolliver. Even if he's no better, you're in the exact same position when you had Adrien, but at least here you're trying something different
Mike Malone was never given a fair chance in Sacramento, and Ranadive will soon come to regret that, when he's on top of the WC inevitably contending somewhere

It's August and we haven't had our annual Scavenger Draft this summer so it's not like there's anything else to discuss basketball wise.

I don't like the idea of picking Tolliver up as a hybdrid. There's no way he can keep up with a good small forward on defense. Worst comes to worst, I'd rather see him get some minutes a s a small ball center.

Definitely. I really liked his playing style and it's weird that he couldn't get a spot on the roster after his best season in the league during which he proved that he's improved enough that he has an acceptable jumpshot.

Garbage? He might not be talented, but he's a fifth forward I would love to have on my bench if I were a coach. Put him in the game and he'll give you the effort you want.

The reason why I hadn't even mentioned it until now is that I don't know if I had the time to participate in it, let alone take the lead on it.

Effort is great, but results are the important variable you want in your players. Adrien can give all the effort he wants, but until that turns into actual game impacting results, I can't justify bringing him back.
