Man, just looking at the 2015 free agents, if we continue to build this team and nab a combination of rondo, aldridge, love, hibbert, or gasol we'll be on the fast track. Not to mention the potential of dealing our propects in return for an unhappy star (Durant, I'm looking at you). The future is looking real bright in Orlando.

This is what I have been saying, along with completely agreeing with your previous post.
Marc Gasol is the dream scenario for us, IMO. He would fit wonderfully in to our lineup and could be that guy to put us over the top...IF our guys develop like we all hope. Pau's longevity will hopefully bode well for Marc, as well.
If Dipo ends up being a true SG and plays the large majority of his minutes there....and we don't go after Marcus Smart...Rondo could also be a guy to target.

dont worry, we wont be making the playoffs this year. people still seem to forget we had the worst record in the leauge last year, we wont make that big a jump yet. We still have no inside defensive presence.

The Magic were riddled with injuries last year. On top of that, towards the end of the season Vaughn wanted to develop the young guys.
The Magic have improved slightly with Oladipo and Maxiell. If they stay healthy they could certainly make a push for the playoffs.
Also, the Magic could challenge for the playoffs in a very weak Eastern Conference. Just because we don't have an inside presence doesn't mean we can't make the playoffs. The only time that would matter is if they were trying to contend for a championship.

Ima have to disagree. We don't have inside presence for defense which in case will be killed. The east just got tougher if you recall that teams such as wizards-pistons-bobcats-cavs have improve their roster compare to last years. The Magic only improve in draft, and just like the rest of those teams our players too should have improve as well. We will not make it to the play-offs.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt.LX Offseason Edition)
If Baby is healthy, and still playing for the Magic, we are in danger of being too good. I honestly am getting a little concerned. How do we feel about the 14th and 24th picks? I don't see us being capable of tanking to the point of a top 5 pick as we are currently built. If we are going to suck at tanking I would prefer to go ahead and make the damn playoffs. Someone is going to win around 37 games, hopefully someone else. How do we make a trade to get better another day while getting worse now, this should be fun.

sorry, but BBD is not that good that he makes Orlando a playoff team. dont tell me we were .500 last year, our first 20 or so games were against the worst in the league.

Yep. And when BBD came back healthy, we continued to suck.

Nelson was out for a while.

I'm going with 31-51 for us next season as constructed. Take away 3 wins for any vet moved if it happens.

This comes after the MLS commissioner announced about a week ago that they are going to expand MLS by 4 teams, Orlando likely being one of those teams now that they can build a stadium. I for one am really excited about having another major league team in Orlando and I hope everything works out like it seems to be doing.
Here's a link to the Sentinel article. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/os-venues-tourist-tax-stadium-20130808,0,7623039.story
This is awesome, I was waiting for the news. Soccer is our last legit shot at a second team and this looks to seal it up. If MLS is true to there word we will come into the league in 2015. Congratulations to OCSC on the stadium deal and pending major league status. GO CITY.
I am really happy about this. MLS soccer makes sense in this city. Tons of sense, and the owners seem competent and want to win.
I'm always happy to see the city add another legitimate team, but I really hope they come up,with a way to leverage a refurbed Citrus Bowl for multi-use including soccer rather than building another new venue. I'm probably in the minority there, but my reasoning is the CB really needs to be brought upmtomstate of the art, and I still hold out hope that eventually we get some regular season games from either the Bucs or Jags (or even better, eventually an NFL team relocated) to hit there as well.
I just don't see the need for an exclusive soccer venue I guess.
In fairness, never been a soccer fan so my net rest in this specifically is probably significantly less than many others, and as a result when I see a check for twenty million in public funds going to it, I'd rather see it spent in other ways. But I do appreciate that many others are more excited than I am.

I'm not a fan of soccer, either, but I am a fan of this project.
Remember, it's $20M in Tourist Development Tax dollars, which...
- Are generated from short-term transient rentals (hotels, resorts, apartments inhabited for less than six months, etc.). Thus, local residents are not levied this tax.
- Can ONLY be used for capital construction of tourist-related facilities, tourist promotion, and beach and shoreline maintenance. TDT cannot be streamed into the city's general fund (police, firefighters, etc.)
Theoretically, tourist promotion draws the short straw in this deal:
- TDT levies hotels, etc. a 6% tax.
- Of that, the first 4% is distributed among the Orange County Convention Center, venues, arts groups, and tourist promotion.
- The other 2% is dedicated to sports franchise facilities. But if this tax has satisfied the sports franchises, it may be redirected to tourist promotion.
But in the long-term, building the stadium will eventually generate more TDT revenue and help tourist promotion. Visiting teams will stay in our hotels, tourist promoters can offer hotel deals for Brazilians that include tickets to Orlando City games (with Kaka), etc.

Soccer specific, not soccer exclusive. That means it's designed for soccer as the sport, but other events can be held there.

The Orlando Magic are among at least seven teams to express an interest in free-agent combo forward Anthony Tolliver, reports Chris Tomasson of Fox Sports Florida.

In his five professional seasons, split between five different teams, he's averaged 6.1 points, four rebounds, and one assist in 19.9 minutes

You know we were .500 when Baby was healthy. So it's hard to misunderstand let me say, I don't think we are making the playoffs. I do think we are more toward the wrong end of the lottery if everyone is healthy and trying to win.

We also had the easiest schedule in the entire nba up to the point where BBD went down. So yeah, we were close to .500 but it was against the bottom lottery teams. In other words, when we played the better talent, BBD probably wouldn't have won us more than 2-5 games. Now, if you think Baby would have helped us beat teams like SAS, MIA, NYK, IND, CHI, GSW, LAC, BKN, BOS, OKC, etc (which were the type of teams we played without BBD) I don't know what to tell you.
