Musk, the visionary behind electric-car firm Tesla and the private spaceflight company SpaceX, has said he will unveil a Hyperloop design on Monday (Aug. 12), after teasing the world about the superfast travel technology for more than a year.

The solar-powered Hyperloop would allow passengers to get from Los Angeles to San Francisco in less than 30 minutes, Musk has said, meaning it must travel at speeds greater than 600 mph (966 km/h). The system would be cheap and convenient, he added, with tickets costing less than a seat aboard a plane or train and Hyperloop vehicles departing frequently from their various stations.

Really looking foward to hearing the details. Dude is a **** genius, so I wouldn't put it beyond him to come up with some sort of technology to speed up travel.

Better have a prototype that has been tested otherwise not a big deal imo.

its probably not going to exist in our lifetime so i wouldnt put too much hope into that. remember the bullet train from la to vegas?

Yeh I'm not getting my hopes up. I remember they were also talking about a bullet train from New York to London as well at the turn of the century. That nothing more than a pipe dream.

I really like the innovations that this guy is putting forth. First the tesla prototypes and now this. La is also in dire need of efficient public transport so if this is actually realized anytime soon it would be timely.

Unfortunately big oil is probably really opposed to his advent so thy are probably taking extreme countermeasures to stunt his company's advancement.

the tesla is nice but its not the solution to anything. public transportation and the elimination of cars is the real answer cuz nothing else will solve the issue.

the problem with LA is the way the city is designed, so until that is fixed efficient public transportation will be impossible. was talking with someone way smarter than me about this, he actually worked on the first design of the tesla and was an engineer for the olympics in london. pretty much said that LA is a horribly designed city and thats why public transportation is more difficult than it should be.

I think the hardest thing in this all is what Simba mentioned. Big oil companies would do everything to stop this from happening. They would lose millions if people accepted this form of transportation.
Stuff like this would be great for LA.

Talking about transportation. Last time i was in LA, they were building a new metro line similar to the valley orange line on exposition (USC) that ran from Culver city to LA. They are planning on expanding it all the way to UCLA and eventually to Santa monica. That would be pretty cool. Traffic on Wilshire to UCLA is a bitch.
