Should we deal for a bad contract & a 2014 lottery pick?
How good is next years draft class? I'm trying to think of ways to get a lottery pick since I hope/assume ours will go to Charlotte. Would you take Gerald Wallaces horrible contract for the next 3 seasons for depth, defense and 3 point shooting for Bostons unprotected 1st next year? Would they do it?
I was looking over the team salaries of teams that should get lottery picks next season and I didn't see too many horrible contracts that would be worth giving up lottery picks for expiring contracts because cap space rarely matters much to such horrible teams as free agents aren't interested anyway.
What would we have to give up to get Toronto's unprotected 1st? I want to see how our new pieces work together but should they look like a bad combination of talent by the trade deadline do we deal Monroe rather than give him a huge contract? Would Toronto take Monroe and expirings for Gay and an unprotected 1st?
I guess after all the action and moves of the offseason I'm just excited to try to balance out the roster because we all know it's not a finished product. I know there have been topics on it before but what should our best case/worst case be when dealing our expiring contracts?

Nobody is trading potentially good to great 2014 lottery picks - nobody.

no, the capspace/trade options are more valuable to us. What position would we use a lotto pick for anyways?

I still don't get that trade. Trading Noel was ok, but the draft picks were over the top.
I think we should have made a trade with Charlotte - swap picks this year (#4 and #8) and remove restrictions on next year's pick. CHarlotte could have still gotten Zeller at #8, and we could have got Noel. Even if we used him as trade bait (Holiday instead of Jennings?), I think we would be better off.

If we could we would. But we can't since no team is going to trade a lottery pick this year. Every team is willing to keep a bad contract in exchange for whatever minuscule percentage they have at getting someone like Wiggins.

Wallaces contract is horrible. He's basically a worst version of Smoove, so it doesn't make sense. If there's a player that could produce but is a little overpaid, then sure make that trade.

Raptors aren't trading both Gay and the 2014 First (unless its for a Superstar obviously), because they're both trade chips used for different directions.
If Raptors decide they want to tank, they'll do Rudy + NY 2016 First and some 2nd Rouders for Monroe + Expirings
If they don't want to tank, then they could potentially do something like Fields + 2014 First for Monroe, though that pick is valued so highly to us Wiggins-Happy Raptors fans that they might be looking for a more accomplished young player ala Jrue Holiday.

Uhh, we don't have the capspace to deal for a bad contract, unless you're suggesting we ship out one or both of our expirings (Stuckey, CV) for a longer term bad deal.
If it were possible to move Stuckey for Gerald Wallace and Boston's unprotected #1, then sure I can see doing that. Boston's tanking, though, whether they say it or not, so that's probably a top six pick, and there's no way they're doing that.

As high as the organization is on Val, I don't think Monroe is the right fit for them. Although he should be a solid defender, Val's strength is going to be offense, and would be better to pair with a defensive big.

So going into the season, what seems like a more likely scenario(to tank or not to tank)? And if they're interested in tanking why not accept the CV/Stucky expirings and loose a year of Gay's bloated contract that doesn't make sense to a young team. I think Gay hurts a team like Toronto's development because he's not a piece I see there long term.

They traded a potential lottery pick for an all star in Jrue Holiday.
The pistons traded away a potential lottery pick for Corey Magette ...............................
I know there's more to it than that ... But still

Obviously we have no idea what is on Ujiri's mind, but a likely scenario seems to be waiting until trade deadline to see how the roster performs before making any decisions, espeically since a lot of us believe we have a good shot at making the playoffs. In addition, it seems likely that a better deal for Rudy Gay will present itself by then, and trading Rudy straight up for expiring would basically be a waste of an asset. It's also very possible that Rudy opts out to sign a long-term extension (less bloated) with the Raptors, provided that they decide to go forward with the current core.
I agree with the Monroe and Val pairing, but I think they would be interested in the deal strictly based on Monroe's market value, and the fact that they already have a great defensive big in Amir Johnson. If the raptors really wanted, they could then flip Monroe to another team for that mold of big + assets.
Personally, I don't want to tank as I have a lot of faith in our roster. If it were up to me, we should just go forward with the current roster and keep the pick (unless we can swing a trade for Aldridge or another star). That way - if all goes well - we'll make the playoffs and then have a pick in the mid teens which could be a player we'll hopefully add to our young core.
Monroe is a good, young player and all, but Amir made great strides last season (still only 26) and can finally flourish with full time starter minutes now and a consistent rotation now that he'll be healthy and we'll finally have some good big man depth. And as mentioned earlier, Monroe and JV doesn't seem like a good fit to me. JV seems like he's strive next to a a good two-way big that rebounds and can hit a mid range jumper, which Amir looks to be able to provide.
Long post, awks =)

They would but Detroit wouldn't.

That's understandable, I was just explaining it from their point of view.

Sorry if that came off as hostile, I could have said that a lot more mannerly.

That's what I was thinking, but not Rudy Gay he's awful.

IMHO
This team has too much youth and not having a 1st will be great for us. I dont want to bring in any more players to devolpe next yr.

You should think of better adjectives before you post responses.
