UFC 167: St-Pierre vs. Hendricks (Nov. 16th)

Post#1 » by SDM » Wed Aug 14, 2013 12:23 pm

Some talk on FuelTV last night about Machida/Belfort being the co-main.

This is the 20th anniversary card, so expect it to be stacked.

Machida is out to prove that a steady diet of your own urine can defeat poppin' peds like pez.

I wonder at what weight? Vitor hulks at 205 now, he won't be able to catch Machida.

Dana apparently wants 185, but Belfort is reluctant to go back to 185 unless it's a title shot.

Could be held at Franklinweight. If Machida plans to drop to 185 permanently (YES! PLEASE! GOD!) and Vitor's deadset against 185, this is the compromise.

That seems like a Brazil card main event.

Isn't Vitor unable to fight in Vegas anyway?

Rory/Lawler added. Probably co-main title eliminator.

Damn, was kinda hoping for that Brown/Lawler fight to happen.

Also think Maia should be involved in any title eliminator.

Oh well, still a cool fight I guess.

I honestly don't see it as competitive. Rory is just so methodical. He'll come in with a gameplan.

Everyone keeps on talking about how Hendricks is such a dangerous opponent for GSP. Isn't he just a left handed Koscheck?

Yep. Overrated MMA wrestler too, especially when he gets bullied like he did in the Story and Pierce fights... had no answer for the aggression. I think GSP's gonna turn his face into hamburger, assuming he still has some spring in his knees and can pressure Hendricks.

For the couple of interviews I've seen Hendricks himself overrates his wrestling and underrates GSP's. He does have a small chance at a first round knock out, but after that it's all GSP by wrestle hump or jab fest, imo. I'm also dubious about Hendricks' cardio over 5 rounds. Mu only concern is that GSP didn't look that great himself cardio wise against Diaz.

Not as good a wrestler, but much better striker I think. At least in terms of being a knockout threat. So I doubt GSP stands with him like he did with Koscheck.

Condit landed some excellent strikes against GSP, but I'll chalk that up to cage rust. If Hendricks lands those same strikes, we'll have a new champion.

Hendricks has power in his left hand, but he can't pull of the Combination that allowed Condit to land that headkick.

I wasn't referring to the headkick. Condit landed solid shots that snapped Georges' head back. He'll be on the floor if those shots are from Jonny's left hand.

I'd much prefer Rory against Matt Brown. He will be far too technical for Lawler IMO.

Funny you should mention that, as the match I want is Matt Brown vs Lawler, as kind of a dark horse style contender.

Not to mention that's a fun fight in which someone would have to be scraped up off the octagon.

Dana mentioned that Davis/Sonnen "could happen" at 167.
