Wasn't Jonas always the fan favorite there? I thought he was like LeBron back there?

To simplify there are some fan camps:
1. JV (Vilnius) fans who hate D-Mo
2. D-Mo (Kaunas) fans who wish JV to fail
3. Vilnius and Kaunas fans who wish JV and D-Mo to be successful
4. Neutral fans and the list goes on

Something like Bryant vs VC debate.

1-2 groups are pretty much "special" 14 years old kids.
All normal Lithuanians belong to group 3 :)

And no, wouldn't say JV always was fans favourite in Lithuania. Prior to 2010 world fiba it was Jasikevicius.
After it Kleiza overtook that role. And I would say JV became most popular in 2012 (and just with slight margin). This year his lead is unquestionable

Wait.. why do any LTU fans hate D-Mo or want JV to fail?

it's a regional thing and a thing between lietuvos rytas and zalgiris, the top lithuanian basketball clubs. dmo joined zalgiris, jonas joined lietuvos rytas, but really it's only for super die-hard fans that want one to fail. everybody else just wants the lithuanian teams to receive medals, regardless of who's on top.

So you want to play it safe and handle backup PG duties to old, mediocre, no future type veteran. Honestly I think we need to look in the future and develop Cizauskas with all his growing pains and problems. What will happen in Olympics or WC if Kalnietis will be unavailable due to injury? Then we will look back and think, oh maybe we should have played Cizauskas and given him valuable experience. Sorry but I am trying to look past this EC and think about 3-5 years from now. Besides Cizauskas we have no better option so might as well throw kid in the fire and let him grow.

It's kinda ridiculous that some people hate Jonas just because he didn't play on their team. It's kinda like if we drafted Wiggins and when Canada's NT would play we'd hate Tristan and Bennett, because they don't play for the Raptors.

You dont develop youngsters while trying to make World championship. He spent 2 months practicing with the team, thats good enough. Thats the reason he got an invite, he shouldn't be here to begin with.

I could agree with you if I thought it was a close call or Cizauskas was actually promising. I spent 2 days here talking about Cizauskas, I don't think hes that promising. You keep trying to sold him for me on fact he is the future, while I am very unconvinced that he is. Posts wont change the opinion now, Cizauskas has to prove me wrong.
I personally see bust, thats just what I see, it looks like a waste of time. I have always seen it, I saw it 2 days ago. From that 1992 Jonas junior team, Redikas and Cizauskas were obvious busts in my eyes, I liked Skucas and Ulanovas though. I could be wrong, whos me?

The way he abused that Swedish center in the paint was a beauty to watch. How you can stop this?

JV is the proof, that ''star calls'', for the most part, is a made up BS. Some players are just really good at drawing fouls. If he ever becomes a star, I bet there will be people bitching that hes good just because of the refs.

Whatever happened to Kalnietis... I always thought he was their replacement for Jasikevicius as the PG

Always remembered him as a pretty good shooter and decent ball handler just not as dominant in the PnR as Sarunas

Nice work on the and-1 sealing his man and going up strong through the baseline double.
