I still don't get that trade. Trading Noel was ok, but the draft picks were over the top.
I think we should have made a trade with Charlotte - swap picks this year (#4 and #8) and remove restrictions on next year's pick. CHarlotte could have still gotten Zeller at #8, and we could have got Noel. Even if we used him as trade bait (Holiday instead of Jennings?), I think we would be better off.

Noel + A Davis wasn't going to work, and they figured that with Holiday, Davis, Ryan Anderson, E Gordon, Ty Evans et al their 2014 pick would fall out of the top 10 or 12. Outside the top 8 guys this year, the 2014 draft isn't crazy deep; a 13th overall pick is a little better than usual next year but not a really great asset.

I think they may have overrated Jrue a little--he finished the season pretty poorly and his efficiency numbers aren't good--but they got a very young, proven, legit NBA PG to run with the rest of their young core. Holiday as a player is better than 75%+ of 5th overall picks, so they were also playing the odds there too.

Your other trade would've been nice for us, BigLip. Would have saved Charlotte some money too, having to pay the 8th overall rookie scale instead of the 4th. but Charlotte's FO would have had to risk that the guy they loved would fall 4 spots, and that would've been a hard thing to gamble on. And we couldn't have gotten Holiday just for Noel, and we wouldn't have a lotto pick from next year to sweeten the deal. We could have taken Noel or McLemore though, and still picked up Jennings.

That's what I was thinking, but not Rudy Gay he's awful.

That's what I was thinking - either Noel or McLEmore, although KCP might turn out ot be as good as McLemore anyway. And we're giving up our pick to Charlotte no matter what, so we wouldn't have given up anything really. I'm pretty sure Zeller would have dropped - still had McLemore, Noel, Len and Burke on the board. Oh well, draft seemed to turn out pretty good for us anyway.
