"LA will never be Clippers town"

Post#1 » by Akklaim1 » Wed Aug 14, 2013 2:09 am

I'm a diehard Clipper fan, but I can accept that (but still get annoyed). I embrace the fact that we're in the minority while the rest of the city is whining and hatin' on us because the franchise that used to be a laughing stock year after year is doing well and not just doing well, doing better than their beloved Lakers.

Though it is nearly impossible that the Clippers will steal the majority of the fan base in LA anytime in the near future none of us have a crystal ball. Jim Buss has shown nothing but incompetence since taking over for his father and incompetent ownership can set any franchise back. Sterling will not be around forever and there are plenty of young enthusiastic entrepreneurs who would love to own the Clippers and try to make them bigger than the Lakers. And lastly we're beginning to see a lot of the younger Hollywood stars starting to show up to Clipper games and I hate to say it but all it takes to gain a great following is to be cool , entertaining and to win. Granted I'm not holding my breath but 10, 20 years down the road who knows.

It's gonna have to be a generational thing. In my week in LA, outside of at games I saw more Lakers tattoos than I saw Clipper jerseys.

A positive is the Clippers jersey wearers tended to be younger teens, hopefully they stick it out!

I guess I'm different from you all.

I don't want to own LA. I don't want to be like the Lakers.
I want:
a) a strong core fan base in LA that's loyal
b) some national appeal.

we can do that by winning. we don't need Jack Nicholson or Denzel Washington....or a bunch of idiots who dunno anything about basketball but "SIXTEEN WINGS THOUGH" trying to rep our brand.

i like our fan base. i like you guys here in this forum. I want to encourage a stronger base of like minded people....not just everybody hopping on board.

Maybe the Clippers should just move down the 5 and make their home at the Honda Center in Anaheim? Its actually been a dream of mine since the Pond was built but I'm probably in the minority.

actually, donald sterling owns "the most" of the LA rental properties... therefore most lakers fans rent from donald already, so yeah, the clippers have owned LA for some time.
ehhhhh f it.

In all seriousness, I don't even care about all that. I just want to see my team win. In order to do that, it's not about the team trying to be the best in the region, but be amongst the best in the league. If you want to root for this team, cool. If not, then whatever. Most of us have had to deal with the jokes, ribbing and all of that over the years. So I wouldn't even really want the people that got their shots in over the years to try to jump on board. Stick with your team through the good and the bad.

An Anaheim move is such a downgrade. The money is in LA. Even Arte Moreno wishes his Angels were based in LA.

hence him changing it from Anaheim Angels to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

tbh, i've been a clips fan for so long, all i care about is just staying consistent and relevant at this point. take over the lakers? never. beat them all the time from here on out? i'm down with that.

Arte actually changed the name back to the original name, Los Angeles Angeles. The "of Anaheim" part had to be added because the city of Anaheim sued after Moreno changed the name.

It had nothing to do with history whatsoever. He just wanted to be a bigger brand by claiming the Los Angeles moniker. Just going by Anaheim did not offer much marketing so he thought Los Angeles was gonna help market his team better. He was also thinking about leaving Angel Stadium so he could build a new stadium in Los Angeles. So yes, he really does wish his team was based in LA.
