Not a Grizzlies fan so I'm wondering is a pg really neccessary?
Bayless/Miller/Pondexter/Davis/Koufos is a pretty solid 10 man rotation already.
Wouldn't it look something like:
Conley (36) Bayless (22)
Allen (28) Miller (10)
Prince (24) Pondexter (24)
Randolph (34) Davis (14)
Gasol (34) Koufos (14)
Plus you have Wroten at guard in case of injury

The problem is bayless was not effective at all last year unless conley was on the floor.

Yup.. Bayless is an average ball handler, at best. He is mostly a spot up shooter and who can (sometimes) find his own shot and is much more suited to shooting guard than actually handling the ball at point.

Re: 2013/2014 team
I think we can help him out though by putting Prince on the bench. He seemed very comfortable in that point-forward role.
I also think Wroten can help a bit because he allows Bayless to guard 1's instead of 2's. He can also handle the ball, though he doesnt do much else offensively.
We also have that Akognon kid as an option. He can at least shoot the ball as I understand it.
I have a feeling that - if we dont pick up a veteran PG - that wroten and akognon will both see time at pg, and there may be a bit of an offense/defense dynamic there where the matchups dictate who plays.

Calathes will be better than either Wroten or Akognon and there is no way we should keep four PGs on the roster.

We should hold on to all of them, and let them all have stints in the D-League.

Re: 2013/2014 team
Akognon and Calathes have (reportedly) different skill sets, though. Josh is an undersized 2. Calathes' size may well end up keeping Josh with the Grizz, as they may end up being able to develop both to be on the court at that same time - with Nick at the point and Josh at the 2 on O and reversing their roles on the Defensive. We'll have to wait and see.

Re: 2013/2014 team
yeah even though they are 4 PGs they are 4 very different players. Conley and Calathes are a traditional PG but one is undersized and uber-athletic while the other is a big size but less athletic. Akgognon I thought was billed as a 3pt specialist and to help our distance shooting perhaps. We got him before we got Miller though I think so he might be the odd man out. Wroten is the "combo guard" like Bayless. We might as well hold on to him for now he doesn't hurt playing for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them is gone by the end of pre-season but certainly they all deserve a shot for training camp.

Bayless is probably gone next year, and our backup PG situation is also still unsettled. I say we just keep them all. Stash one or 2 in the D-league for this season.
