With no prospects, no free agents to chase after...would you raid the Twins?

Not a chance, they have terrible contracts. It may help get into the Playoffs this year but it's not like they'd still be good enough to actually win the World Series; and then it would crush the 189 mill plan next year and then delay any effort towards rebuilding.
Preemptively joining the Bucks and Twolves bandwagons.

I don't believe the Yanks will/can afford to rebuild.
You CAN'T rebuild if your GM and his scouts can't produce one reliable starter outside of Andy Pettitte who was a product of Gene "Stick" Michael who was a scout before running the Yanks and Bob Watson. That means in over 18 yrs, the NY Yankees farm system couldn't produce one viable option capable of holding a spot in the rotation as a winnable pitcher over 3-4 seasons.
It is NO coincidence that Cashman over valued: Carl Pavano, Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, Ian Kennedy, Kei Igawa, and Michael Pineda.
There is too much money invested in running the billion dollar stadium/amusement park. It's not happening. If rebuilding was an option, the Yankees had EVERY excuse to throw in the towel on this season. No, they added Soriano's contract, putting themselves back in the hunt.
With Tex and A-Rod's contract as dead weight, few top free agents available, why not add two huge cogs whose contract should expire when A-Rod's ends.

Because it throws the 189 million plan out the window. It may not be my money, but when we are getting hit with taxes at 70% rate instead of 15% its going to make a difference in how the team operates. If they are below 189 next yr, they finally reset and our Lux Tax penalties will finally start to decline, if you don't think thats driving the Yankee decisions currently then I don't know what to tell you.
I still think the team can re-build and its something they have to do. Cashman probably doesn't know how to rebuild or would suck at doing it, but for where this team currently stands I think it's the only option they have (what they need to do is fire Cash-man and higher a proper GM). There's no one on the market or coming to the market who can help turn this team around. Morneau and Mauer also dont really help us get any younger.
