Surprised by so many journalists near the workplace, turns out Joe Biden is in Houston for his son's treatment.

A Third Of Louisiana Republicans Blame Obama For Hurricane Katrina Response Under Bush

Having just left there, there are still large parts of the city that haven't fully recovered...

The French Quarter seems better than ever and the Garden District looks like it's doing fine... But those areas weren't hit hardest and the Garden District is where all the rich people live.

But the farther you get from those areas, the more crumbling and boarded up buildings you see. The only question I have, was how rough were those areas before Katrina.

My wife, who visited NO before Katrina, said the French Quarter is much nicer now... She said it was pretty seedy and a little scary at night... We walked around all over there at night and didn't feel terribly unsafe.

Neither one of them did/is doing enough... That said, I've always thought their local government deserved the lion's share of the blame... They didn't prepare before Katrina, were slow to respond/communicate their need, and I'm not sure the money went where it was really needed... It seems clear in fact, that the money being generated in the French Quarter from tourism and all the films being filmed their, doesn't seem to be getting out of the French Quarter.

That's really the issue with most of the state governments isn't it? They are not well managed, corrupt and many times just hilariously incompetent. There was some news when I lived in St. Louis that the city had run out of money and had to shutter down two schools on the north-side, basically the only two things keeping kids off the street in those poor neighborhoods.

A local news station went in and checked some of their budgeting and discovered that they were leasing close to 80 police vehicles at $26k per year per car. These aren't corvettes we are talking about, just your run of the mill fords and dodges. You could likely outright buy them for that money.

It's a tough situation... Those same things happen all over... All the city government officials in LA getting arrested for embezzling state funds... Austin city governments diverting funds from school programs to pay for better Football fields/equipment...

So then a 1 in 50yr hurricane blows through and destroys the town... But you've diverted funds away from where they needed to be to mitigate some of that risk... It's like a house of cards... And unfortunately it's always the poorest and oldest people that are the biggest victims.

Story time.
So I have been talking to this chick in my class for about two weeks (White girl from New mexico I say about an 8 very smart which is a plus). I am not much of a social person in classes, but on the day of my midterm i forgot my blue book and asked her if i could borrow one. After that she started sitting next to me in lecture and we talked a lot about general stuff. Today she actually brought me coffee which caught me off guard. I must say that I enjoy the attention.
I'm in a long term relationship so I cant do much except flirt.
Dont get me wrong I enjoy being in a long term relationship, but on days like this :nonono:

It's basically a marriage at this point. It's about time I propose.

Smart girls whose an 8, that's a pretty good find. What's your girlfriend in comparison? Depending on your answer, I'd tell you to jump ship.

She is hispanic in the same sense that I am hispanic. She is Spanish/German.

Earl, your mistake was keeping your gf in college. If you're that douchebag that proposes while still an undegrad I will add you to my foe list, put porn on your facebook before deleting you and get your address from imadogg to mail you a bag of cow feces.
