Daisuke Matsuzaka, who signed with the New York Mets on Thursday, will start for the club on Friday night against the Detroit Tigers.
Matsuzaka was released by the Cleveland Indians this week. He was 5-8 with a 3.92 ERA in 19 starts for Triple-A Columbus.
The Mets lost to the Boston Red Sox in the bidding for the Japanese right-hander seven years ago.
