If Jonas is as good as he seems to be, tanking will be no easy task.

Defensive coaches don't make for true tank seasons though I'm sure Ujiri will be in the ear of all the assistants/potential successors about "development" if things go badly.

I know this isn't a stat that is really used, but it just boggles my mind that in a game like the last one - between free throws (9-11) and field goal attempts (7-9) Jonas took 20 shots at the basket and 16 went in. Who does that?

Or in the last 3 games of last season - not that they meant anything to the team i know, but still - Jonas shot the ball at the basket 36 times and 27 went in. And at the end of March there was a 3 game stretch where he shot the ball 33 times and 25 went in. He just seems to have a ridiculous ability to shoot the ball accurately.

And this isn't some new development or fluke, it's a long-term trend.

Yeah I know. That's why I made 3 sigbets saying that said Jonas would be in the top 3 in the league in TS%. I am extremely confident I will win those bets. I actually think he will be #1 by a wide margin, as he was in the last 2 months of last season when he was starting. He was at TS 71% compared for those months compared to 62% for the NBA season leader. Can't wait to see him dominate this year...

His soft touch is further accentuated by the fact that he knows how to keep the ball high when he catches passes. Him and Amir Johnson are amongst the best in the league at this and we have them both.

Luckily we have Casey to do the tanking. So get ready to see a lot of Gray PT over Jonas.

Averaging 15.4 points on 6.7 FGA per game so far, 20.4 minutes.

2.25 PPS

70.2 FG%

70.1 TS%

Only 61.5 FT%. Lets say, if he hit those at 80%, what he could, his TS% would currently be at 78%. Free throws ruined the fun, I mean only 70 TS%, pffff...

I honestly think that in a couple years, Jonas will be a top-5 pick in fantasy hoops. I think in two years it's realistic to expect:

15ppg
10rpg
1.5bpg
55% FG
80% FT

Those are crazy numbers in fantasy! Compared to a guy like Dwight (nowhere near the free throw efficiency) and Dirk (lower FG% and rebounding), that's the making of an elite fantasy player.

I'm not saying he'll be a top-5 nba player, but kind of like how Shawn Marion used to be a top 3 fantasy guy and a top 20 player

For those of you too excited about Val:
1. Sabonis said Val looks robotic (meaning, less thinking, freedom and improvising, more schematic moves, which will make it easy for opponents to prepare playing against him. Casey messed up Val's mind, so to say.
2. The coach said Val is for now incapable of always beating most of his opponents playing 1 against 1, especially in tough competition, yet has very little skill playing sets. So, they have to coach him back into basketball common sense...
3. He played against weak opponents so far.
The efficiency was always there, though, and Lithuanians are likely to build on it this year. It will be interesting to see how much it will drop with the start of the championship, or how much he will progress before the NBA season starts.

He's been killing everyone 1 on 1. Where does this come from?

I suspect it comes from their practices, and knowing the competition in the group. He is still a high turnover risk, and Raptors-style physicality can easily translate into fouls. The sets are meant to create mismatches for Val or open up other players, so it will be very interesting to see how the coach uses him when the real games start.

Yup. They are developing him into a post player. Before he was primarily a guy who ran the floor & scored on the pick n roll.

I's amazing how much better JV's post game looks since the beginning of last season.

If you are a post player, you don't necessarily have to be "fluid". To me Tim Duncan looks very mechanical & he's one of the best big men of all time. Other than Hakeem & Sabonis, which of the all time great C's looked "fluid"? Shaq, Duncan, Ewing, Mutombo.......all far from graceful.

All of this stuff is nonsense. I get the feeling that Lithuania has a vision of how they want JV to play & the NBA has another. At the end of the day JV is going to make his money playing in the NBA. If he wants to make big money & be considered one of the top players in the world, he'll have to do what's best for his NBA career development.

I've really enjoyed how Lithuania has used JV so far. I hope they continue.

the coach is honestly a dumb ass, he wont even give chance for dmo to play in the post, even though thats one of the main reasons to keep Dmo in the court. He prolly thinks that neither JV/Dmo can play as finishers, and wants them to play as pick & roll energy guys.

I def want to see D-Mo in the post. He's a better post player than JV, at least in terms of skills. JV relies too much on overpowering his opponent whereas D-Mo has great footwork and skills. Against a good defender I think that D-No would be more effective. I do hate when D-Mo shoots 3s, he's not a good shooter from there.

That said, I can't criticize the coach. He has worked with the Lithuanian, Greek and Chinese national teams before. He knows better than we do. I hate how D-Mo stays on the perimeter but I bet he does well their during practice, and/or struggles in the post. The coach is too knowledgable otherwise. He's not a dumb twit like Casey that was hired because of a single good run with the Mavs. LTU's NT coach has a great resume and the team has looked good so far even playing with many different rotations/lineups.
