Dwyane Wade Back With Tim Grover

Post#1 » by Chessboxer » Sat Aug 24, 2013 3:14 pm

"I don't train my clients to be good as new, I want them to be better than ever," Grover said about working with Wade again. "That's the goal for Dwyane."

Riley, the Heat president, said he is hoping for Wade to get down to 212 pounds, the weight he was when he came into the NBA, next season to reduce the strain on his knees and get some mobility back. Wade is listed at 220 pounds on the official roster but may have carried more than that over the past few seasons.

"He’s going to get down to 212 pounds next year and he’s going to come back and reinvent himself and everyone is going to say 'Wow,'" Riley said at the end of the NBA Finals on Dan Le Batard’s radio show.

A motivated Wade in a contract year WITH Time Grover? I think this is the best Wade we will see in years, and as you can see Riley wants him down to 212. If you guys get a chance to check out his instagram, he is already training for next season.
" What I do is attack your ability. I don't have to stand over you and taunt you. You'll know when it's done that I'm better."

I'd love to see Wade at ~210-215 again. He got big to protect him when he was caroming recklessly to the rim all the time. Now that he's using the post and playing off-ball more, it makes sense to reduce stress on the tendons and try to stay as quick as possible. The extra mass isn't as needed.

I don't know if he can get that low, but even the low 220s would be nice. Pretty sure he's been playing upwards of 230 over the past several seasons. Totally agree, though. It's tough to see him struggle to get past his man at times now. Being lighter should help that. I think with his length and mass (even as a much thinner rookie he was still big), the extra weight won't be missed in the post.

Wade has definitely lost weight, judging from his face

This is good news, Wade is still bigger and stronger than 95% of the sgs at 220, he doesn't need to be 230. With all the people saying Wade is done, looks like he wants to prove them wrong once again with a strong bounce back year working with Grover.

I feel like for basketball in general, having extra mass is a detriment. Guys like LeBron and Dwight are the exceptions to this since they're still soooo athletic.

I don't blame Wade for adding more muscle to his frame considering his playing style, but as an undersized SG losing a little of that mass will be good for him. Glad he's headed in this direction.

Awesome Tags on the instagram pic. They've always doubted him, but he's always risen above. Wade will be back with vengeance. His love of the game will demand it.

If Wade drops the weight, we may see a more explosive Wade. Explosiveness we haven't seen since '10. I CAN'T WAIT

Gotta believe this will help his knees too. Less burden and weight on those knees, the better.

Don't know why he doesn't consistently work with Grover. Helps him both physically and mentally. Used him before 2008 Olympics , and during the Thunder-Heat Finals, and saw marked improvement.

I wonder if he could do something for Lebron possibly....

I heard Grover workouts are hell lol

Probably not something you wanna do every summer but he may have to suck it up to be where he needs to be.

Not any sort of fitness expert, but can Wade get down to 212 if he's lifting weights like that?

Would love if LeBron spent an offseason with Grover.

LeBron doesn't need Grover, he has the ideal trainer for himself as it seems, so he should just stick with what's been working for him.

Grover is the best trainer for Wade, so regardless of how tough his workouts are, that's the guy he should consult every summer.

Not an expert myself but as far as I'm aware there's only two ways to loose muscle mass and that is; 1) Serious starvation. This causes the body to eat it's own muscle tissue to survive and makes you seriously ill and leads to your death. This it obviously not an option, ha. 2) Not use the muscles you want to get rid of. I imagine this being very hard at an elite level when you can't just stop working out because it would make you slower, weaker and less endurable. I would imagine that it takes a lot of time and dedication to pull something like this off and that the only way to do is to work out in a new way that has it's focus tilted more towards endurance/quickness and less towards mass and explosiveness.

He has to lift, just do it in a different way basically. I would guess much lighter weights and many more reps.

Yes, lifting weights only adds muscle/mass if you're eating enough. In fact, you should be lifting heavy while cutting if you want to preserve the muscle you have while lowering body fat. The thing is, whether its muscle or fat, your weight is controlled by calories in/calories out, but elite level athletes tend to not track these as well as they could because they're already in fantastic shape, I would imagine Grover has some strict calorie goals in mind for Wade to go with his workouts and that's something you won't see in twitter pics.

EDIT: I should clarify also, there's no need for Wade to lose muscle at his height/weight. 230 at 6'4'', he's still got room to lose fat with the current amount of muscle he has. Just an example, but Arnold at 6'2'' weighed only 230 pounds when competing in bodybuilding competitions, and he obviously had way more muscle than Wade.

Its one thing to go training with Grover but another to slim down without sacrificing muscle and strength. Wade is going to have his work cut out for him. But if its anyone I know who can do it, it's Wade.

I don't see him dropping from 230 to 212 in 2 months nor do I see the need for him to drop that much weight, 212 was his rookie year weight. 220 was his '06 weight and he bulked up to 225-230 years after that. If he went all the way down to 212 it would eliminate the advantage of his strength and ability to bully other guards.

Wade is about 8-10% bf so it's not like he needs to shed off fat, he's already very lean.

So by him doing high intensity cardiovascular exercises + eating lower than his maintenance in calories it will allow him to drop the weight needed.

As I said before I think 220-225 would be the optimum weight range where he'd have a lot more explosiveness while still keeping the strength to bully other guards and strength he's had to hold his own when guarding bigger players.

Schwarzenegger was actually only about 5'10.

Wade's really 6'3, which makes his historic shot blocking prowess all the more impressive.

A healthy Wade is better than an off-season pick up. That's easily an extra 5ppg...
