What the hell is Romero doing?
Good Lord, you'd think getting your ass kicked every time you're on the ropes would make you stay away from them.

Great fight to end the night and 2 of the judges picked the right guy.

I still can't believe how Barker got up from that body shot, he was very close to being counted out.

That was a good competitive fight. Barker looked to be done after that liver shot. Geale was attacking him for a good 30 plus seconds before Barker regained his senses and started fighting back.

This is the most likely scenario. HBO just rejected a Ward/Sartison match because it was a joke of a fight to begin with. His team needs to propose fights that the HBO higher ups would be more palpable to. Hell, even a rematch with Froch would make more sense than fighting a fringe fighter. Despite already having beaten Froch in decisive fashion, at least Ward would be able to stay active and make money lots of money at the same time. A fight in England would make way more money than a fight in Oakland would.
But the main problem is the lack of competition at 168. It's hurting Ward because he dominated all the big dogs in the super six tournament. On top of that he really isn't a proven draw outside of Oakland, despite his top 3 pound for pound status. He wants to dictate the terms, but doesn't necessarily have the leverage to do so. Right now his best course would be the one you just proposed. But in the mean time he needs to stay active again, and not against guys like Sartison.

Don't know if any of you caught the golden boy Monday night card on fox sports 1. Jacobs had a brutal ko in the main event.
Not a lot of quality on the card but very nice to see boxing on a Monday night.

Mares was just laughing at Donaire too.
Too bad politics kept those two from fighting while the iron was still hot.

I still can't believe what I just saw. That was a beautiful left hook by Gonzalez for the first KD.

Donaire vs Mares would've always ended up with Abner getting the Montiel/Raging Bull treatment. Mares was down vs Darch, hurt vs Agbeko, average chin that wasn't good enough defensively to hide it. Mares wouldn't win on the outside vs Donaire, he'd have to rush in and with all his defensive openings.
GBP didn't want it with Donaire.

Re: Boxing Thread 3.0
Mares is a tailor made for someone like Donaire. Donaire loves countering offensive minded fighters, and Mares leaves himself way too open to getting hit.
But I don't agree with GBP not wanting that fight to happen. It would have happened if there wasn't a cold war between the two promotions.

Great win for Gonzalez... people knocking Mares need to acknowledge this... outside of Carl Froch... no one has been facing to fighters from the get go.... You fight the best, sometimes you lose...

I don't think anyone can sh*t on Mares's resume. He's an exciting fighter. That being said, I thought he was being a bit of an ass for laughing at Donaire and claiming that he only wanted the fight because he lost to Rigo. Not to say that Donaire isn't an ass himself, because his post fight interview after the Rigo fight was atrocious and full of excuses.

Well that stemmed from Donaire saying before the Rigo fight that Mares wasn't in his league even if the fight could be made...

Re: Boxing Thread 3.0
True. That being said they were both acting pretty dismissive towards each other, and ended up losing to their respective opponents.
Anyway I still think Donaire beats Mares easily. It's just that the fight never happened due to stupid politics.
It sucks that they're considered the biggest names at 122-126, while a superior fighter like Rigo gets the shaft. The HBO execs don't want to see him fight, and he won't be getting any GBP fighters anytime soon. The whole situation completely sucks.

Re: Boxing Thread 3.0
Still in shock over last night's main event. Incredible left hook landed by Gonzalez, seen the slow-mo gifs of the first KD, a lot of other guys would've been put to sleep..so credit to Mares for even getting up from that shot. Its the upset of the year for me...so far. Still got some time left in this unbelievable year for boxing.
Some thought Terrazas would be a bit of a challenge for Santa Cruz but it wasn't even close. Terrazas was basically **** by the end of round 2.

It was horrible defense too. A lead left from that far out, from a guy you know is bringing in ferocity and one-punch power in both hands?
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

If I'm remembering correctly, Gonzalez landed that same punch a minute or so earlier but he didn't put anything on it at the time.
I did like how Abner was very classly and humble in defeat. Also while the loss was shocking, it wasn't that brutal of a knockout. He'll be able to bounce back from it.
