People need to realize what they consider more important. Clutch to be last second shot vs clutch to be how you perform, points, rebounds, assists, defense in close games. I consider the latter to be clutch. If clutch was the first criteria then joe Johnson would be the most clutch playe in the league and melo would be arguably the most clutch player since Jordan

It's fine to perform well in the last few minutes of a game ... but can you make the game sealing shot?
It's just that we rarely see Lebron game winners. Even with the Finals game 6 it was Ray Allen hitting the clutch 3. In fact, it always seems that someone on Lebron's team goes nuts behind the 3-point line (ex. Battier/Miller).

about to drop knowledge on ya

in playoffs, tying/go ahead shots final 24 sec of 4th/ot since lebron entered in 03-04
lebron 7-17
kobe 5-17 (1-7 before 03 for 6-24 for his 17 yr career)

playoffs, game winning shot in final 10 seconds of 4th/ot career
lebron 5-10
kobe 3-14
and just for perspective, jordan 6-13

in both game 7s and elimination games aka come up big or go home, lebron the leading scorer all time.
kobe in game 7s avgs 22.2 ppg on 38.9% shooting.

going reg season, in this era lebron stands out again along with dirk. you can gain knowledge on that over here viewtopic.php?f=64&t=1248280

so in the current nba, i think the most clutch players are lebron, dirk, cp3

Empirical data once again destroying eye-tests and nostalgic memories.

Nash and LeBron stand out as particularly great. Terry, Allen, Duncan, Dirk, KG very solid as well.

This is a LeBron post, so additionally I gathered his 2013 stats from NBA.com.

LeBron's 2013 regular season clutch stats (PER/36 minutes): 29.1 PTS, 11.8 REB, 11.2 AST on 55.6 TS%. A meaty triple double average. His 2013 playoff stats were similar, where his TS% managed to rise to 60.2% (15%+ higher than Durant, Parker, Pierce, Melo, Lawson, Duncan, Curry, Deron, J.R. to name a few) while his PTS dropped by 3.

He was 1st in AST and 8th in REB in the clutch on a per-minute basis during the regular season among fairly loosely qualifying players. Absurd.

If you're thinking he shies away from shooting in the clutch, the table from the earlier link indicates that he's comfortably placed 2nd in FGA in the clutch from 2000-2012 on a per-minute basis; he's only 4th in raw FGA due to having played fewer seasons than those ahead of him. Bonus: he averaged 49.6, 42, and 42 PTS PER/36 on insane efficiency in the clutch his last 3 seasons in Cleveland.

Finally, this is more about praising LeBron than disparaging Kobe. Once again from that earlier table, here are LeBron and Kobe's points per shot (no FTA) in the clutch and remember that this spans over 1,000 FGA each. Kobe .86 PPS and LeBron 1.012 PPS.

More unequivocal destruction.

Skip Bayless does not appreciate the siding with LeBron in this thread.

Kobe isn't clutch. Don't confuse clutch with taking a lot of shots and bricking them in the last few seconds of a game. He isn't afraid to shoot I give you that but its not a good thing in this case considering he misses a lot more than he makes.

Lebron is one of the least clutch players in the league. Dude bricks jumpers and FTs in the clutch

That said, the current top 5 clutch players are:

1. Kobe
2. Durant
3. Melo
4. Dirk
5. Pierce

And yet, he still hits them at a greater percentage than several players that are considered clutch.

Immediately look at who he puts on top of the list when he says things like that.

If being clutch isn't real, when Dirk, Lebron, CP3, Pierce, Kobe, Melo, Kyrie, Allen, or even players like Curry, Gay, or Manu have the ball at the end of the game-- your heart doesn't start pounding while you plead to the basketball gods they don't sink a basket and win the game?

Even if your definition of clutch is broader and is about the entire 4th quarter, are you more afraid of the role players of the game than the guys mentioned throughout the thread? If you believe there's little separation from consistent shooters/scorers and superstars, that's ridiculous. If the game is on the line you put your trust into the guys that won't crack and can execute under duress, under defensive pressure, and with all eyes on them.

Who's the clutchest is debatable for sure since there are many definitions of clutch, but people saying it doesn't exist is just crazy. When Lebron or Dirk had the ball in their hands and they need to score and will their team across the finish line, you sweat bullets knowing that there's a very good chance they can come from behind or make that special play that you just can't stop. That is clutch.

Those guys are that good all the time. The don't magically become 90 percent shooters in the clutch. Clutch is real it's just not the ability to just hit one shot. Clutch to me is the ability to will a team To victory when you're team needs it, close games can a player stand out amongst the others? All those guys on that list save for Rudy do or did that consistently throughout their careers.

And yet all of those players are already good players and scorers... People fear them at any point of a game. I doubt people don't fear them in the first 3 quarters but then all of a sudden in the last shot, they start to shake. The last shot means more because the clock will run out and the game could be over. It doesn't make them clutch, it just makes them good. All of those players you listed, I would fear their scoring at any point of a game, not just the last shot.

Again, players who are clutch are already damn good anyways in the first 3 quarters. There aren't any mediocre players that get some superpower in the last minutes of a game and turn into a dominant player. I'm sure someone will reference Derek Fisher or Robert Horry, well, how many times have those guys created a shot for themselves and if they had to, would you still fear them? I doubt it. People fear them when they are wide open because a wide open shot is a high percentage shot.

Melo no doubt. Then Kyrie, Lebron, Rose, Dirk, Pierce
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o

this is the least understood and most valued 'stat' in NBA. I have no idea why it means so much - probably because of its drama value.

anyways...i hope one day we move far away from actually acknowledging this as an actual attribute.

Joe Johnson should be on more of these lists. Dirk is probably the most clutch though.
