What does white guilt have to do with any of this?

If you look closely at the marshmallow in the video, right as he starts chasing the kid he tries to signal to the other people walking on the platform that his iPhone has been snatched but little does he know that those people are all probably in on it.

Talk about a lack of street smarts.

I sure hope he did not try to continue the chase outside of the station and into the streets where the kid's friends are probably waiting for him because 20 people against 1 in a street fight are not good odds.

Street smarts ... This reminds me of a bad day I had 5 years ago ...

WTA, my van was broken into back in 2008. The very day my now ex-wife deployed for the second time to Iraq, I made a stupid mistake. I drove to a mall with a movie theater and parked my car, with my computer and very important papers inside. Worse, I had the van really clean and I was wearing an Aloha shirt that may as well have been a neon sign that read, "TOURIST. PLEASE ROB ME."

Parking was tight and I parked next to a beat up old van, that was noticeably out of place. I came out of the theater to discover my van had been broken into and my computer was gone. There were three or four very out-of-place looking guys in the van. I think they were Filipinos, mostly around 18-20 with an older driver. They were rugged-looking, but parked next to a Kinkos and some up-scale stores. Had I taken the time to process they were in the van when I parked, I would have carried my computer by hand or parked somewhere else, but I was careless. I relaxed, just like the guy you think was foolish, WTA.

When I noticed the lock was broken and theft had occurred, I immediately felt they had my computer. I calmly walked up to them and asked them to just return the papers. I had resumes, job stuff, in my nice case. Not to mention the 2500 dollar lap top the VA gave me. Looking back, they didn't even look surprised that I asked for my stuff. I don't recall what the driver said, but he left. No, I didn't get the plate number if it had them. I was probably mad at the time.

Next, a mall security guard who was very nervous (I am a black man, not that small) approached. My first thought: This dude is in on it. He was probably the spotter. I had a thought these guys are lucky this is Hawaii and I'm not a wild man. They might be criminals but they haven't conceived of what could have happened to them. If I were different I would have had some guys fearing for their lives. (Think Jules from Pulp Fiction, or Ving Rames about to get Medeival--that's how I felt). But, reality is I'm a peace-loving dude, no matter what they say about me. :)

WTA, I'm older but I got victimized just like the white dude on the metro.

I made a call and said I think the guard's in on it, loud enough for him to hear. But guess what I did next?

I read my bible that was on the front seat. They didn't take that! I sat down and got myself together. I do remember thinking they're really lucky. I hoped maybe they'd dump my paperwork, but I never recovered anything. But, the big picture: It's material things. In the end who the heck cares?

A funny thing happened just weeks after my car was broken into. Police at another mall nearby noticed car thieves in action. They went to apprehend them but the driver tried to get away. He actually hit a policeman, or brushed him with his car. Just before they shot him DEAD.

It was very likely IMO one of the same guys. I believe he was the very guy I asked to give me at least my papers back. Yes, I felt he had it coming.

What part of any of this makes stealing the phone OK? The fact that he was a marshmallow? The fact that he doesn't realize that the guy that he bumped into and fell was "in" on it? The fact that there were 20 people outside the station waiting to commit even more heinous crimes against him?

What if it was a girl on that train? What if it wasn't just petty theft? What if it was a hold up? Rape? Oh wait, you already delighted in the fact that the man in Eastern Market who got robbed and beaten within an inch to his life was just some yuppie gettin his. How dare he move into a townhouse with his family and try to go to a baseball game? The gall. The nerve. He deserves to get beaten to a pulp just because you don't have a place to loiter any more.

You really are a piece of crap. It's cute to moan on about the spread of CVS's. What you've progressed to recently is downright scummy. The undeserved "us vs them" victimized persona you've adopted is petty, shallow, and ignorant. I have no idea what kind of **** you went to prep school with but know that there are **** of all races, creeds, and religions. Just because someone chooses to shop at a CVS instead of a bodega doesn't mean he deserves to get his phone stole. It's just as facilely idiotic to think that as to think a poor, ghetto-looking person is the type of person to steal phones in the first place.

What's really frustrating is that not a drop of any reason will wet your dull brain. Not a single ounce of remorse or apology will result from this. You'll just keep on being an ignorant dick, sniping from the shadows - pelting potshots of unpleasantness on us - your unsuspecting victims and it'll just be par for the course. That also bums me out.

The only thing surprising me about this thread is that there are still people on this board who don't have Wes_Tiny_Abe_ on ignore.

I welcome WTA, Diderotn, WizardDynasty, etc. StillDroppin20, or whatever he goes by these days didn't bother me. I don't want anyone to be marginalized, no matter how out there they seem.

I'm out there, too, at times.

If a topic is too offensive, I just don't engage with them. Every now and then, extreme points of view make for some lively discussion. I ignored this thread for a while, but the part where WTA more or less inferred the metro victim above some how had it coming for not being street smart hooked me in. Like it was his fault for not being hip to who's in on it. I think I'm fairly street wise. Yet, I got my stuff stolen, too.

My point is what was the guy supposed to do? Pull out a glock and blast the guy who stole his IPhone? That's even worse. Thinking back, if I had exacted revenge on the guys who stole my computer, I'd be in jail like O.J. for getting his boys to kidnap folks at gun point and steal back his stuff.

WTAs thread made me reflect, some positively, believe it or not.

Nivek, if I were really busy doing all I should be doing, I guess I could have avoided this topic ... :D

There's quite a difference between having a differing opinion on certain players, prospects, etc. than the majority and celebrating crime committed against a person due to his skin color and financial well-being.

I've got to say that I've never been a member of a forum where WTA wouldn't have been banned long ago for his trolling, racism, and consistent vitriol.

It amazes me the guy can maintain that vitriol. Reminds me of Chow in the Hangover movies.

Don't get me wrong. pancakes3, Nivek, and Mizerooskie, I appreciate where you're coming from on WTA. My opinion is some people live by the motto of any attention is a good thing. Some folks want infamy. Some kids will act out negatively, just for the attention. A few, I guess borderline personalities and sociopaths are just so maladjusted that they want to hurt others. Others are scared and hurt others because of some other problems.

I don't really know what WTA is all about. I'm not worried about him either way. If he violates TOS or trolls too much, he'll disqualify himself. I don't mean to be flippant or dismissive of generally f'd up views. My point is this just a message forum and not the real world, thank goodness.

Posting a theft in progress ...wow. Oookay ...

CCJ -- I did much the same thing for awhile. But reading trolling idiocy got old. I left the boards for a couple months because I was sick of reading it, but missed the hoops talk. So, I use the ignore feature for a handful that habitually post stuff that offers little of value to me. In WTA's case, he doesn't talk hoops, offer insights, or even present a worldview that's remotely interesting to me. So I put him on ignore. Life's too short.

Well to be honest I think the last place I loitered outside of was the Capital Centre in the late 1980s /early 1990s both before and after WWF events but I am not even sure if that was loitering because me and my friends paid for tickets to all of the events we attended over there.

Looking back, the people who used to hang out in Capital Centre parking lot were a hell of a lot more interesting than any of the disgusting yups you will find roaming the streets in Capitol Hill today.

Yes I have adopted an "us vs them" mentality.

I have taken my prep school's swim team, golf team, tennis team, lacrosse team and soccer team snobbery to a whole new level and I have taken it with me well into adulthood. :D

WTA shows a distinct lack of class putting the DC NFL franchise name in the title
in all caps.

You're a cornball Wes. This is coming from someone who grew up in Riggs Park in NE, which had a bad rep as being a traphouse area in the 80's and 90's--and is now building brand new condos to get more "yups" in the area. You may see it as some negative as upper northwest DC kid, but i guarantee you didn't grow up with pipeheads and d-boys roaming your backyard like I had to.

I have no problem with the city gentrifying. I'd rather have more yups than morons like the kid you seem to cheer for in the video above.

Fair enough.
You had your share of undesirables in your neighborhood and I also had my fair share of undesirables in my neighborhood too.

But I guarantee your opinion of the yups would change if you grew up with them.
Behind closed doors is where they show their true colors and most people outside of their tight circles rarely see that.
Their sense of entitlement is unbelievable and the way the look down on other people from less privileged backgrounds is downright disgusting.

Keep on admiring them.
I am sure they will keep on saying things about you, not to your face of course but behind closed doors.
